IBM z/OS Systems Administrator / Custom Software Engineer

About the role

We're seeking an experienced IBM z/OS Systems Administrator / Custom Software Engineer to join our team on a contract basis. This is a pivotal role within our Networks & Systems Administration function, responsible for managing and optimising our IBM mainframe z/OS environments whilst developing custom software solutions to meet evolving business requirements. Based in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, Metro Manila, this position offers the opportunity to work with enterprise-level systems infrastructure and contribute to the strategic technology initiatives of our organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain IBM z/OS mainframe systems, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and security across the infrastructure

• Monitor system performance, capacity planning, and resource allocation to support business continuity and operational excellence

• Develop, implement, and maintain custom software solutions tailored to organisational requirements using appropriate programming languages and tools compatible with z/OS environments

• Conduct system administration tasks including user account management, security configurations, backup procedures, and disaster recovery planning

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues, providing timely technical support to development teams and end users

• Collaborate with software development teams to integrate custom applications with z/OS systems and ensure seamless deployment

• Implement and maintain system patches, updates, and security protocols to protect critical business data and infrastructure

• Document system configurations, procedures, and technical specifications to ensure knowledge transfer and operational consistency

• Participate in capacity planning and infrastructure upgrades to support business growth and technological advancements

• Provide technical consultation on z/OS best practices, system design, and architecture recommendations

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as an IBM z/OS Systems Administrator or similar mainframe systems role, with a minimum of 5 years in a professional capacity

• Strong knowledge of z/OS operating system architecture, components, and administration utilities (JCL, ISPF, TSO/VSAM)

• Proficiency in at least one programming language relevant to z/OS environments, such as COBOL, PL/I, Assembler, or Java

• Experience with systems performance monitoring and tuning tools specific to z/OS platforms

• Solid understanding of security protocols, access control mechanisms, and compliance requirements for mainframe systems

• Familiarity with z/OS networking concepts and integration with distributed systems environments

• Experience in custom software development and deployment on mainframe platforms

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues

• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional technical teams

• Preferred: Experience with IBM software solutions (e.g., DB2, IMS, CICS) and knowledge of modern DevOps practices applied to mainframe environments

• Preferred: Relevant IBM certifications or formal training in z/OS systems administration and software development
