About the Role:

The ICU Registered Nurse (RN) plays a critical role in delivering specialized nursing care to patients experiencing life-threatening conditions in the Intensive Care Unit. This position requires continuous monitoring, assessment, and intervention to stabilize patients and support their recovery. The ICU RN collaborates closely with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement individualized care plans that address complex medical needs. The role demands a high level of clinical expertise, critical thinking, and the ability to respond swiftly to emergencies. Ultimately, the ICU RN ensures the highest standard of care to improve patient outcomes and provide compassionate support to patients and their families during critical times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in critical care or ICU nursing preferred but new graduates with strong clinical skills may be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of ICU protocols, patient monitoring, and emergency response procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) credential.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and assess patients’ vital signs and overall condition continuously, identifying any changes that require immediate intervention.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies as prescribed, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols.
  • Operate and manage advanced medical equipment such as ventilators, infusion pumps, and cardiac monitors.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and update patient care plans.
  • Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families regarding treatment plans and recovery processes.
  • Document all nursing care, patient responses, and clinical observations accurately and timely in electronic health records.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, performing life-saving procedures such as CPR and advanced cardiac life support when necessary.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized ICU environment in compliance with infection control and safety standards.

Skills:

The ICU RN utilizes critical thinking and clinical judgment daily to assess patient conditions and make rapid decisions that can be life-saving. Strong communication skills are essential for coordinating care with the healthcare team and providing clear explanations to patients and families. Technical proficiency with medical devices and monitoring equipment ensures accurate patient assessment and treatment delivery.
