Role Purpose:

This role reports to the IFRS 17 Lead and works closely with both Actuarial and Finance teams to support the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of IFRS 17 actuarial modelling, reporting, planning, and analysis capabilities across ASR. The role is designed as a development position, providing strong exposure to end-to-end IFRS 17 processes, including actuarial modelling, financial reporting and business planning in a reinsurance environment.


Role Responsibilities:

  • Support IFRS 17 actuarial modelling, reporting and planning processes, including preparation of-model roll-forwards, analysis and reporting outputs.
  • Assist in implementing IFRS 17 methodologies, systems, and controls to ensure robust and compliant reporting.
  • Understand and analyse outputs from IFRS 17 actuarial models, particularly under the General Measurement Model (GMM).
  • Support actuarial methodology development and validation exercises, including payment pattern analysis, risk adjustment calibration, assumption setting and sensitivity analysis.
  • Perform variance and movement analysis across profitability, cashflows, and balance sheet positions.
  • Support preparation of management reporting packs and assist with IFRS 17 disclosures for financial statements.
  • Work with Syndicate, MGA and external stakeholders to understand and reconcile GAAP reserving data into IFRS 17 outputs.
  • Support ORSA and business planning processes, including forecasting and scenario analysis.
  • Assist with documentation, process improvement, and automation of reporting workflows.
  • Collaborate effectively with both local Mauritius team members and international stakeholders.


Skills & Experience:


Essential

  • Degree in a numerical discipline such as Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, or similar.
  • Understanding of IFRS 17 concepts, with exposure to General Measurement Model (GMM) preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a logical approach.
  • Proficiency in Excel and ability to work with large datasets.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Motivated, proactive, and keen to learn and develop within the insurance/reinsurance sector.


Desirable

  • Internship or initial experience in actuarial, insurance, or finance roles.
  • Exposure to IFRS 17, reserving, or financial reporting.
  • Experience using PWC IFRS 17 ‘Solved’ Software or other IFRS 17 reporting systems, experience with Syndicate or MGA environments.
  • Basic programming knowledge (e.g. SQL, VBA, Python).
  • Progression towards actuarial qualification
