Image Data Analyst - Applied to Livestock Agriculture
Salary: $65,000 – $75,000 per year

About the Role:
Join our innovative agricultural research and consulting team to develop cutting-edge AI solutions that will transform how we assess and measure livestock. This exciting research position focuses on developing machine learning models for automated image analysis, with applications applied to livestock agriculture. This is a hybrid position with the applicant able to work from home up to 2 days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and train computer vision models for automated measurement and analysis from digital images
Implement deep learning algorithms for image recognition and dimensional analysis
Process and analyse large datasets of digital imagery using AI/ML techniques
Collaborate with livestock agriculture researchers to integrate AI solutions into practical applications
Document research findings and contribute to project reporting
Stay current with advances in computer vision and machine learning methodologies
Essential Requirements:
Recently completed or about to complete Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field with a focus on machine learning/AI
Strong programming skills in Python and experience with ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar)
Demonstrated experience in computer vision and image processing techniques
Knowledge of deep learning architectures, particularly convolutional neural networks
Experience with image annotation tools and dataset preparation
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Desirable Skills:
Experience with object detection and image segmentation
Familiarity with livestock agriculture applications
Knowledge of statistical analysis and data visualisation
Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, etc.)
Understanding of model validation and performance metrics
Eligibility Requirements:
This position is funded through MBIE and candidates must:
Have submitted a thesis or completed coursework less than 12 months ago, or be about to complete
Be legally permitted to work in New Zealand
If not a New Zealand citizen, must have undertaken study at a New Zealand tertiary institution
Have no previous professional employment in the industry (except temporary/part-time/tertiary roles)
