Import Manager

Job Summary

The Import Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the end-to-end import operations of the company, ensuring efficient customs clearance, timely delivery of cargo, and full compliance with all relevant import regulations. This role plays a key leadership function in coordinating with clients, customs officials, shipping lines, and internal teams to facilitate seamless import processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the entire import process from pre-arrival coordination to final delivery of cargo to clients.
  • Supervise and support the import documentation team to ensure accuracy and timely submission of required documents.
  • Coordinate with customs declaration officer, customs service team, and shipping lines and transporters to expedite clearance and cargo movement.
  • Ensure compliance with all import regulations, tariff schedules, licensing requirements, and customs procedures.
  • Monitor and control demurrage, storage charges, and other costs to ensure cost-efficiency.
  • Maintain strong relationships with regulatory bodies, including customs, port authorities, and relevant government agencies.
  • Provide clients with accurate shipment updates, timelines, and resolutions to any import-related issues.
  • Lead and train a team of import officers, coordinators, and clerks to achieve operational goals.
  • Analyze import trends, identify risks or delays, and implement process improvements.
  • Prepare operational reports for management and ensure all records are maintained for audits and compliance.


Qualifications and Skills

  • College or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, International Trade, or a related field.
  • Minimum [5+] years of experience in import operations, with at least [2+] years in a managerial role within a clearing and forwarding company.
  • In-depth knowledge of import procedures, customs clearance processes, port operations, and trade regulations.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in logistics management software and customs platforms.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
  • Professional certifications in international trade, freight forwarding, or customs compliance are an added advantage.
