Our client is a growing consumer products company that designs and distributes creative, trend-forward products for children. Their team works across product design, sourcing, branding, and commercialization to bring engaging products from initial concept through to market.

Description:
Our client is seeking a Industrial Designer to conceptualize and design fun, safe, and trend-forward products for children. The role will focus on developing engaging cosmetic and consumer product concepts while balancing aesthetics, functionality, cost, manufacturability, child safety, and regulatory requirements.

Working closely with product design leadership, graphic designers, suppliers, vendors, and other cross-functional partners, the Product Designer will support products throughout the full design lifecycle, from early concepts and specifications through costing, packaging, and production. The position reports to the Senior Director of Product Design and is fully remote within Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop product concepts from initial idea through production, ensuring alignment with market trends, brand direction, and target customer preferences
  • Conceptualize playful and engaging cosmetic products, including beauty products, accessories, kits, and related children's consumer goods
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and manufacturers to refine designs and address technical or production challenges
  • Prepare and maintain product specifications, CAD information, bills of materials, and other documentation required for production
  • Work directly with suppliers and vendors to obtain quotes for materials, components, and manufacturing services
  • Support budgeting, costing, and price negotiations throughout the product development process
  • Provide graphic designers with the information required to maintain consistency across packaging, instructions, and supporting materials
  • Consider formulations, textures, application formats, packaging, sensory appeal, and child safety throughout the design process
  • Ensure products are developed with applicable cosmetic regulations, compliance requirements, and safety standards in mind

Qualifications:

  • University or college diploma in design or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in toy industrial design, with children's or toy-adjacent product experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of cosmetic formulations, textures, application formats, and cosmetic packaging, particularly as they relate to child safety and sensory appeal
  • Knowledge of cosmetic regulations and compliance standards, particularly for products marketed to children
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with budgeting, product costing, supplier pricing, and price negotiations
  • Experience working with suppliers, vendors, and manufacturing partners throughout the product development lifecycle

Preferred:

  • Experience designing children's products or other toy-adjacent consumer products
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks
  • Experience taking physical consumer products from concept through production
  • Montreal-based candidates are preferred, although candidates anywhere in Canada may be considered
