JOB SUMMARY: The Industrial Engineer is responsible for supporting productivity improvement activity at the existing facilities in a 3PL environment. This will include areas of operation in auditing facility process’ and procedures, material flow and layouts, developing and implementing work procedures, method analysis and maintaining the validity of job standards. Secondary duties and responsibilities include coordination of activities to ISO 9001:2008 standard. The position will also support time studies, layout evaluations, dock capacity analysis for existing operations as well as future proposal opportunities. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Industrial Engineer performs the following tasks:
- Manage the design and implementation of supply chain solutions for both new and existing clients in warehousing, distribution, in-plant logistics activities, value added services, and inventory management.
- Responsible for managing productivity improvement activities at the two or more 3PL facilities.
- Areas of emphasis will include auditing facility processes and procedures, defining material flow and layouts, developing and implementing work procedures, method analysis and maintaining the validity of job standards.
- Define site processes and procedures that support time studies, layout evaluations, and capacity analysis for existing operations, as well as future proposal opportunities.
- Responsible for special projects to facility utilization analysis, capacity evaluations, material flow analysis, and root cause analysis for inventory control and shipment issues.
- Evaluate space utilization compared to the original contract agreements.
- Evaluate, analyze and negotiate contract requirements compared to the actual (including headcount, equipment, handling and space) requirements.
- Assist with the training of facility personnel as it relates to the documented work instructions and material handling equipment.
- Participate in Unit Testing, Systems Testing and User Acceptance Testing of Warehouse Management Systems and validate that the operational requirements match the system configuration.
- Develop detailed project plans that consider layout design, procuring and installing storage and material handling equipment, labor hiring, systems design and implementation, development of inbound, outbound and inventory processes, training and go-live.
- Time Studies to support headcount requirements for existing and future programs.
- Responsible for special projects to include dock capacity evaluations, material flow analysis, root cause analysis for inventory control issues.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2008 Standard to support the facility with maintaining or obtaining compliance.
- Perform Time Studies to support piece price billing alternatives.
- Lead and Support Problem Solving Teams within the facilities.
- Maintain a working knowledge of Industry Standards and new technology for continuous improvement of our work environment.
- Develop and in depth understanding on the Warehouse Management System capabilities.
- Validate safe working practices at each facility on an ongoing basis.
- Participate in Request for Proposal response activities to include the following:
- Pricing development
- Assist with understanding scope and customer expectations
- Operations design
- Project management
- Developing transition timelines
- Participate in customer presentations
- Investigates opportunities to optimize existing warehouse processes to derive 2% - 3% cost savings through Projects, Kaizen, DMAIC and Automation projects.
- Mentor Industrial Engineers in best practice to design warehouse, data analysis, training and go-live.
- Able to present warehouse solutions and CI projects to the customer with effective communication and strong presentation skills.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: - Strong working knowledge of Warehouse Management System functionality
- Good computer skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: - Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering required
- Master’s degree preferred
- 5 years of experience in 3PL engineering role preferred
- 5 years of experience in Warehouse Operations
- Experience in Warehouse Management Systems and AutoCAD
- MS Office (Visio, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Experience with lean or other continuous improvement tools preferred
- Experience in a 3rd party logistics company a must
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Driver’s License or equivalent LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents, including protocols, standard operating procedures, purchase orders and requisitions. Ability to communicate in writing to management.
