Position overview

The industrial hygienist specialist provides expert industrial hygiene and occupational health support to major onshore and offshore capital projects during the project start-up and handover phase. The role is critical in ensuring workplace health hazards are properly identified, assessed, controlled, and transitioned safely to operating assets in compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and internationally recognized best practices.

Key responsibilities

Industrial hygiene & occupational health leadership
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement the industrial hygiene program (IHP) for OES-led major projects (onshore and offshore).
  • Conduct health risk assessments (HRA) to evaluate occupational exposure risks and establish mitigation priorities.
  • Design and implement exposure assessment strategies (EAS) for project start-up activities, ensuring alignment with corporate IH standards.
  • Lead personal and area monitoring programs across onshore, offshore, and offsite facilities, including qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments for similar exposure groups (SEGs).
  • Identify, assess, and control exposure to physical, chemical, and biological hazards to protect employees and contractors.
Risk management & control measures
  • Establish and verify the effectiveness of engineering, administrative, and PPE controls to reduce unacceptable exposure risks.
  • Identify gaps in compliance through IH audits and inspections and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Collaborate with the medical department on health surveillance and occupational health monitoring programs where applicable.
  • Review new and non-routine chemicals, conduct exposure and safety assessments, and recommend appropriate control measures.
Stakeholder engagement & advisory
  • Provide expert technical advice on complex occupational health and industrial hygiene matters.
  • Participate in HSE risk assessment workshops and communicate health risk priorities to project and operations teams.
  • Support effective and sustainable handover of workplace health programs from project start-up to operating assets.
  • Liaise with contractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with health and environmental regulations.
Training, awareness & continuous improvement
  • Develop and deliver industrial hygiene training and awareness programs, including:
    • Hazard communication
    • Hearing conservation
    • Heat stress management
    • Respiratory protection
    • Ergonomics
    • Radiation protection
  • Support Qatari development programs (NDP) through competency development and knowledge transfer.
  • Identify improvement opportunities, define performance indicators, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, review, and maintain industrial hygiene procedures in alignment with the management system.

Qualifications & experience

Education

Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, environmental health sciences, chemical or environmental engineering, chemistry, or a related discipline with industrial hygiene/toxicology focus.

Professional certifications

Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH), or Chartered Occupational Hygienist (COH). Additional certifications such as CSP, CRSP, or CMIOSH are highly desirable.

Experience
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in industrial hygiene or occupational health.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, or manufacturing environments.
