Information Security Specialist

The OISSO serves as the primary point of contact and principal adviser to the DOJ on all matters concerning the management of information as a critical DOJ resource as it relates to the handling and protections of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), National Security Information (NSI), and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).

The duties and responsibilities for an Information Security Specialist, GS-0080-12/13 generally include, but are not limited to, the following: * Provide advice to senior managers regarding procedural security issues involving the storage, handling, transmission and destruction of National Security Information (NSI) and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), emergency preparedness, and original and derivative classification matters. * Develops and implements security awareness training. * Serve as a liaison with other agencies regarding NSI and SCI. * Provides advice and assistance on developing policies and procedures for the organization's liaison activities. * Advises and recommends innovative approaches for avoiding and/or resolving problems and reducing conflicts, regarding the NSI and SCI programs. * Plans, organizes, and coordinates NSI and SCI briefings and Information exchange opportunities. * Develops and implements security awareness training. The duties listed above are generally written for one grade level. If the position is advertised at multiple grades, the duties will be adjusted in difficulty, complexity, and level of supervision, for higher or lower grades, as appropriate. Organizations may also add 'other duties as assigned' once you are hired, based on what is included and allowed by the position description.
