Infrastructure And Bio-Construction Designer
Summary
A one-year full-time AmeriCorps VISTA service position at Plenitud PR, a non-profit educational farm in rural Puerto Rico. The member builds organizational capacity for disaster resilience — creating educational handbooks, water-quality and infrastructure tracking systems, emergency protocols, and university partnerships — rather than doing hands-on construction.
Plenitud PR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit serving low-income rural communities in Puerto Rico through sustainable living education. In rural Puerto Rico, persistent economic hardship and severe climate events leave vulnerable residents without resilient shelter or water security. Plenitud builds long-term community resilience by expanding educational capacity in emergency shelters, rainwater harvesting, bio-construction, and water filtration. This VISTA position will build Plenitud's capacity by creating standardized educational materials, infrastructure tracking systems, and emergency preparedness protocols for our educational farm and community center. These systems enable partner organizations, volunteers, workshop attendees, and rural leaders across PR to replicate disaster-resilient infrastructure. Key Capacity-Building Duties: • Build project management frameworks and water quality tracking systems for educational facilities. • Develop technical educational handbooks and disaster response protocols for distribution across community networks. • Formalize partnerships with University of Puerto Rico Engineering/Architecture departments to expand internship and research opportunities. Service Dates: November 16, ****-November 15, ****. Contact: Jessica Jones-Hughes (******).
Member Duties : The VISTA Infrastructure and Bio-construction Designer will build Plenitud PR's organizational capacity to expand disaster resilience and sustainable housing solutions in low-income rural Puerto Rico.
