Summary

Infrastructure/DevOps Engineer joining a small, established infra team at a fast-growing UK defence technology SME in Bristol (hybrid). You own AWS-based projects end-to-end — making them production-grade, cutting support burden, and shaping architecture — using Terraform/CloudFormation, Ansible, Kubernetes, Linux and networking.

Infra / DevOps Engineer, Bristol (hybrid), up to £80k

We’re looking for at least 4 Infrastructure / DevOps Engineers to support a small established Infra team at one of Europe’s fastest growing defence SMEs.

Who they are

They built next-gen sensing and communications systems that operate at the edge. Think frontline teams making decisions with whatever they've got, and technology that protects people and critical assets in demanding environments.

This particular Infra team has 8 members. They’re a close-knit team who are highly collaborative and frequently knowledge sharing. There will be lots of context on the older projects to get you up and running.

The first 6 months:

  • Upon joining you’ll take over a couple of established AWS projects, learn the bespoke environments, and make them properly production-grade.
  • Cut the support burden on existing projects
  • Have a real say in architectural direction
  • Then move onto newer projects with more freedom to spread your wings

This role isn't one of forty people in a platform team shuffling tickets. Most projects have a single engineer on them. There are more junior engineers to lean on and a team that is super supportive, but ultimately you will have ownership of a project. Expect some ambiguity, because things change fast.

Who we’re after

  • Solid mid to senior. You've owned things, not just contributed to them
  • AWS-flavoured cloud engineering, with decent networking and Linux admin underneath
  • Comfortable with containers and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or CloudFormation, plus something like Ansible)
  • Exposure to Kubernetes and comfortable with containerisation
  • Are you a support or sysadmin background that moved into cloud? Great. Some of their best team members have gone down that route
