Infrastructure Project Manager

Summary

Oversee the end-to-end offboarding of an IT infrastructure vendor, coordinating knowledge transfer, asset reconciliation, and risk management to ensure zero disruption to business-critical systems.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Project Manager to lead the transition-out of infrastructure services from an incumbent managed services provider (MSP) or outsourcing vendor. This role owns the end-to-end offboarding process — from transition planning through knowledge transfer, cutover, and vendor exit — ensuring continuity of operations and zero disruption to business-critical systems during the handoff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the overall project plan for the vendor transition-out, including scope, timeline, milestones, risk register, and dependencies across infrastructure, network, and application teams.
  • Coordinate knowledge transfer sessions with the outgoing vendor, ensuring documentation of runbooks, configurations, credentials, licensing, and support procedures is captured and validated before exit.
  • Manage the inventory and reconciliation of infrastructure assets (servers, storage, network devices, cloud resources, monitoring tools) being handed back or decommissioned as part of the offboarding.
  • Drive cross-functional coordination between the client's internal IT teams, the incoming support model (in-house or new vendor), and the outgoing vendor to ensure a clean handoff.
  • Track and mitigate risks related to service continuity, SLA gaps, and knowledge loss during the transition window.
  • Manage vendor contract close-out activities in partnership with procurement/legal, including final invoicing, asset return, and access revocation.
  • Ensure all access, credentials, and administrative rights held by the outgoing vendor are properly deprovisioned and audited at transition completion.
  • Report transition status, risks, and readiness to executive stakeholders on a regular cadence.
  • Maintain a post-transition support/stabilization plan to address issues that surface after vendor exit.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of project management experience in IT infrastructure environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing vendor/MSP transition-out or offboarding engagements (not just onboarding or steady-state operations).
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure domains: servers, networking, storage, data center, and/or cloud environments.
  • Experience running knowledge transfer and documentation handoff processes between outgoing and incoming service providers.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders (client leadership, internal IT, outgoing vendor, incoming vendor) simultaneously.
  • Strong risk management and issue-escalation skills, with a track record of keeping transitions on schedule.
  • PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ITIL processes, particularly transition management and service continuity.
  • Familiarity with contract close-out and vendor offboarding governance (SLAs, licensing reconciliation, access audits).
  • Prior experience in a similar industry vertical to the client (can be specified once client is disclosed).
