About the Role
NFF’s Consulting team works with nonprofit organizations, funders, coalitions, networks and other mission-driven partners to support capacity building and financial sustainability. The team partners with nonprofit leaders navigating growth, change, and systemic challenges by providing strategic advice, financial analysis, and capacity-building support. Through customized consulting engagements nationwide, NFF helps organizations strengthen their capacity, sustainability, and impact.
NFF seeks an Initiative Support Associate to strengthen project execution operational effectiveness and client service delivery within the Consulting Department. The Associate will partner closely with consulting staff to coordinate projects and initiatives, maintain accurate project information, track progress against key milestones, and support the operational processes that underpin high quality consulting engagements. While this role is grounded in project coordination and department operations, the Associate will work across teams to facilitate communication, organize information, support compliance and invoicing requirements, and ensure critical project data and documentation remain current and accessible. The Associate will also assist with the review and analysis of client materials, including financial statements and impact data, helping project teams effectively manage information and advance client engagements.
NFF has offices in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Oakland, and Los Angeles. This is a US-based remote role, with a strong preference for candidates within commutable distance to one of NFF’s offices. NFF has core business hours where we expect all staff to be available from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm local time, and occasional travel (20%) is required.
What You Will Do
Essential responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:
Project Coordination & Execution Support (40%)
- Coordinate project logistics and maintain project plans, action item trackers, timelines, deliverables, and other tools that support effective project execution
- Support client-facing administrative processes, including report timelines, invoicing and billing, tracking re-grant disbursements, and coordinating documentation with internal and external partners
- Prepare meeting materials, agendas, notes, and follow-up communications
- Monitor assigned tasks and proactively communicate progress, risks, and support needs
- Contribute to high quality client deliverables, including PowerPoint presentations, engagement letters, research reports, and workshop/training curriculum
- Identify opportunities for improvements; recommend policy or process changes as appropriate
Research, Analysis & Deliverable Development (25%)
- Update and maintain Salesforce data, ensuring financial, impact, and project records are accurate, organized, and current
- Conduct research and gather information from a variety of sources to support consulting engagements
- Compile, organize, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data
- Support the development of presentations, reports, summaries, and other client-facing deliverables
- Synthesize information into clear findings, observations, and recommendations
- Review work products for accuracy, consistency, and completeness prior to delivery
Knowledge Management & Continuous Learning (15%)
- Identify recurring themes, trends, and insights across projects, clients, and engagements
- Contribute to development and maintenance of tools, templates, resources, and knowledge repositories
- Support efforts to capture lessons learned and effective practices from consulting engagements
- Share observations and emerging insights that may strengthen future project design and delivery
Client & Team Support (10%)
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across projects to support successful engagement outcomes
- Participate in client and internal meetings, contributing notes, follow-up actions, and logistical support
- Lead event logistics and support the delivery of client-facing workshops, training sessions, and convenings, including scheduling, participant coordination, materials preparation, and virtual or in-person execution
- Build positive working relationships with clients, partners, and colleagues
- Seek feedback, clarification, and guidance to ensure alignment with project goals and expectations.
- Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and solutions-oriented team environment
Meetings and Other Duties as Assigned (10%)
- Participate in department, team, and organizational meetings
- Engage in professional development and learning opportunities
- Support special projects, initiatives, and organizational priorities as assigned

Who You Are and Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent combinations of relevant education, training, and experience
- One (1) year of professional work experience
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain strong attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment

Benefits and Compensation
NFF offers a generous benefits package that currently includes up to twenty (20) paid holidays/business closure days, three (3) floating holidays, flexible time off, group medical insurance with a funded health reimbursement account, dental and vision plans, life insurance and disability plans, a retirement plan with both a non-elective employer contribution (4%) and additional match contribution (up to 2%), a “work from home” fund, and flexible spending accounts to cover health, dependent care, and commuter costs.
This is a full-time role with a compensation range of $66,000 - $70,200. A compensation offer is based on a candidate’s background and years of relevant experience, with consideration for internal equity. Because of our strong commitment to equity and growth, we do not negotiate compensation offers.
