InP Edge Emitting Laser Design Engineer
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end laser chip design activities, owning device architecture, epitaxial structure definition, grating design, and performance optimization from concept to release
- Drive innovation in advanced semiconductor laser design through simulation, modeling, and data-driven optimization
- Oversee experimental validation in close collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure scalable, manufacturable, and robust designs
- Lead structured root-cause analysis and failure investigations, implementing corrective actions to improve device performance, yield, and reliability
- Conduct electro-optical characterization and reliability assessment to ensure product quality, robustness, and sustained performance
Skills & Qualifications
- PhD in Physics, Optics, or Electrical Engineering, or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant industry experience in semiconductor laser development
- Deep expertise in semiconductor laser physics and InP-based laser diode design, including epitaxial structure definition, optical mode engineering, and grating design
- Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes, design for manufacturability, yield optimization, and process integration, with hands-on experience in electro-optical characterization and reliability assessment
- Proficiency in advanced simulation and modeling tools (e.g., optical, electrical, thermal), statistical analysis software, and programming for data evaluation and automation
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and drive cross-functional collaboration, with strong problem-solving skills and structured root-cause analysis capability
- Excellent English communication skills (German beneficial)
