Job Description

Position Summary

The Inside Sales Engineer applies engineering principles and specialized HVAC system knowledge to support the design, selection, and application of commercial mechanical equipment systems. This role evaluates project specifications, interprets construction documents, and develops engineered equipment selections that align with project design requirements.

The position involves analytical and design-oriented work requiring the consistent application of engineering judgment, technical problem-solving, and independent decision-making. The Inside Sales Engineer provides technical consultation to contractors, engineers, and building owners while ensuring equipment selections meet system performance, constructability, and code requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze mechanical plans, specifications, and project design conditions to develop engineered HVAC equipment selections.

• Evaluate load requirements and system performance criteria to determine appropriate equipment selections and system configurations.

• Apply HVAC design principles to evaluate system performance, efficiency, constructability, and code compliance.

• Perform equipment sizing and application analysis using manufacturer selection software and engineering tools.

• Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to determine equipment requirements and system compatibility.

• Evaluate substitution requests and confirm technical equivalency.

• Review submittals and technical documentation for compliance with project requirements and design intent.

• Provide technical guidance to contractors, engineers, and building owners regarding equipment application and system performance.

• Troubleshoot equipment and application issues by analyzing system conditions and recommending technical solutions.

• Coordinate with manufacturers to resolve technical questions and confirm application requirements.

• Collaborate with Outside Sales Engineers, Project Managers, and Service teams to ensure engineered solutions align with project requirements.

• Prepare technical submittal packages and engineering documentation.

• Verify equipment selections meet applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.

• Maintain technical knowledge of product lines, HVAC system applications, and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related technical field, or equivalent advanced professional experience applying HVAC system design principles and equipment application engineering.
• Minimum three years of experience in HVAC system design, equipment application engineering, or technical mechanical sales.
• Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC system design principles and equipment application.
• Ability to apply engineering principles and technical analysis to evaluate mechanical system requirements and determine appropriate equipment applications.
• Proficiency with engineering selection software, AutoCAD, and technical documentation tools.
• Ability to interpret mechanical plans, specifications, and construction documents.
• Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to apply engineering judgment to non-routine technical challenges.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly.

Working Conditions

• Primarily office-based with occasional visits to job sites or customer offices.
• Frequent use of computers, engineering design tools, and manufacturer software.

• Occasional travel as needed for project meetings, customer support, or job site visits.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally (drawings, equipment samples, technical binders).
• Ability to navigate construction job sites, including walking, climbing stairs, and wearing PPE.
