Job Description:

Summary:

The Office of Digital Learning & Strategy (ODLS) uses the latest educational technology and resources to support AU faculty in the development, design and delivery of the highest quality online educational experiences. We are seeking a detail oriented, creative, self-starter to join our team and support Instructional Designers in the development of online courses in Canvas. This role is an exciting opportunity for a current student interested in understanding the instructional design process and utilizing various instructional technology tools to develop online courses in a university setting.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with ODLS instructional designers and media specialists to design and develop new courses and revise existing courses in Canvas.

  • Fixing accessibility issues in files.

  • Formatting slide decks for video production.

  • Embedding video content on Canvas pages.

  • Work in a team to review courses in Canvas for accessibility and quality assurance (e.g. checking for alignment with learning objectives, clear instructions, and correcting content link errors).

  • Work independently to review video footage and correct machine-generated captions.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-time.

  • 5 - 10 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $18.40 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A current American University student with an active Federal Work Study (FWS) award.

  • Organized, proactive, and have a meticulous eye for detail.

  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities at once.

  • Committed to delivering a high-quality online student experience.

  • Basic understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite and Canvas LMS is required.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Interest in instructional design, education, graphic design, and/or UX design is a plus.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • This is a hybrid role based out of our Spring Valley Building office, offering primary remote work with occasional days in the office for training, team meetings, or key projects.

  • We ask for a commitment of about 5 - 10 hours per week.

  • This is a semester-long appointment with the option to continue based on university funding.
