Instructional Designer

Summary

Designs and develops employee training programs, eLearning modules, and performance support tools using instructional design principles and multimedia tools.

The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining engaging learning solutions that improve employee knowledge, skills, and performance. This role partners with subject matter experts and business leaders to create instructor-led training, eLearning, blended learning programs, performance support tools, and other learning resources that support organizational objectives. The Instructional Designer applies adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and learning technologies to deliver effective, learner-centered experiences while continuously evaluating and improving learning effectiveness.

This position is hybrid in Nashville, TN.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops engaging eLearning using instructional design best practices, multimedia, and interactive learning strategies.
  • Creates instructor-led, virtual instructor-led, blended, and self-paced learning programs.
  • Evaluates training effectiveness through learner feedback, assessments, business metrics, and continuous improvement.
  • Manages multiple instructional design projects simultaneously while meeting established deadlines.
  • Maintains learning assets and ensures content remains current with business processes.
  • Designs and updates learning solutions that support regulatory, compliance, and operational requirements.
  • Partners with Learning & Development leadership to establish instructional design standards and templates.
  • Utilizes AI-enabled tools, where appropriate, to improve content development efficiency, enhance learner engagement, and support instructional design while ensuring quality, accuracy, and compliance with company standards.
  • Supports Learning Management System (LMS) implementation, testing, and maintenance activities as needed
  • Partner with leadership to conduct a learning needs analysis and assess training needs to improve employee effectiveness and support business objectives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Instructional Design

  • Strong understanding of adult learning theory and instructional design models.
  • Ability to design engaging learner-centered experiences across multiple delivery methods.

Communication

  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and collaborate effectively with subject matter experts and business leaders.
  • Effective collaboration with cross-functional business partners at all levels of the organization

Technology

  • Proficiency with instructional design and content development tools such as Articulate Storyline and Rise, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and learning management systems (LMS), or other platforms.
  • Experience creating interactive eLearning and multimedia learning assets, including video, graphics, audio, and digital learning resources.
  • Familiarity with learning analytics and reporting.

Business Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and adapt to changing business priorities.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to adjust priorities and schedules to meet critical business needs and project deadlines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning Technologies, Organizational Development, Communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Five to seven years of experience in designing training and learning programs, and assessing training needs.

Portfolio demonstrating instructional design and eLearning development is preferred.
