Overview:
The Instructional Designer II is a mid-level member of the Learning & Development team responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and continuously improving learning and performance solutions. This role partners with stakeholders from across the organization, subject matter experts, and Employee Development Coaches to identify learning and performance needs, create engaging learning experiences, support successful implementation, and build employee proficiency that drives business results.
Key Responsibilities:
Learning Needs Analysis:
Partner with stakeholders from across the organization to identify business, performance, and learning needs.
Conduct needs assessments and gap analyses to identify root causes and recommend appropriate learning and non-learning solutions.
Translate business goals into measurable learning and performance objectives.
Recommend learning strategies, delivery methods, and performance support solutions that align with organizational needs.
Instructional Design:
Design engaging, learner-centered learning solutions for instructor-led, virtual, blended, self-paced, and microlearning delivery.
Apply instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and evidence-based learning practices.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure learning content is accurate, relevant, and aligned with organizational goals.
Design learning experiences that improve implementation, on-the-job performance, and employee proficiency.
Content Development:
Develop eLearning modules, facilitator guides, participant guides, assessments, SOPs, job aids, coaching resources, and other performance support materials.
Create instructional scripts, storyboards, multimedia assets, videos, simulations, and interactive learning experiences.
Utilize modern authoring tools, multimedia technologies, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance the efficiency and quality of learning content development.
Learning Implementation & Performance Support:
Partner with Employee Development Coaches to support successful implementation and reinforcement of learning solutions.
Develop facilitator resources and coaching tools that enable consistent learning delivery.
Gather learner feedback, coaching observations, and performance insights to continuously improve learning effectiveness.
Quality Assurance & Evaluation:
Review instructional materials for quality, technical accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with learning objectives.
Conduct pilot testing and learner evaluations to gather feedback.
Evaluate learning effectiveness using learner feedback, coaching observations, LMS reporting, and performance metrics.
Continuously improve learning solutions through data-driven decision making.
Learning Technology Integration:
Develop, publish, and maintain learning solutions using modern instructional design technologies and authoring tools.
Manage learning content within learning management systems (LMS), ensuring accurate deployment, tracking, reporting, and functionality.
Provide guidance and support on learning technologies and digital learning solutions.
Proactively leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies throughout the instructional design process, continuously exploring new capabilities and innovative applications to improve workflows, learning solutions, and team productivity while maintaining high standards of quality and instructional integrity.
Project Management and Leadership:
Lead instructional design projects from analysis through implementation while managing timelines, priorities, resources, and deliverables.
Build collaborative partnerships with stakeholders from across the organization, subject matter experts, Employee Development Coaches, and cross-functional teams.
Communicate project progress, manage stakeholder expectations, and ensure high-quality deliverables are completed on schedule.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and share best practices across the Learning & Development team.
