Summary

The Instructional Designer develops, maintains, and improves training content and process documentation that enables employees to understand engineering standards, follow standardized workflows, and consistently perform their job duties across supported departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This position supports the growth and operational effectiveness of Steele Solutions through training, process standardization, and continuous improvement.

  • Independently manages assigned instructional design, training, and process documentation projects from planning through completion.
  • Develops engaging learning activities and course content that address identified training needs and support employee performance.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains standards for process and project documentation. Creates and maintains documents and process libraries, including:
  • Training course development and deployment through Percipio
  • Process document management and ongoing documentation maintenance
  • Engineering Change Notice process documentation supporting multiple departments
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify training needs, establish learning objectives, validate technical content, and ensure training accurately reflects current processes and standards.
  • Creates supporting learning materials and media, including audio, video, simulations, graphics, and interactive activities. Develops and adapts SCORM-based courses for deployment through the Percipio Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Applies established instructional design theories, adult learning principles, methodologies, and evaluation practices to develop effective training and measure learning outcomes.
  • Develop exercises, activities, assessments, and practice opportunities that reinforce learning, improve knowledge retention, and support job performance.
  • Promotes accountability, collaboration, and positive communication within the department and across supported teams.

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Educational Technology, Organizational Development, Technical Communication, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating instructor-led, virtual, blended, and e-learning training programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, needs assessment, learning objectives development, and training evaluation practices.
  • Experience conducting training needs analyses and collaborating with subject matter experts to develop accurate, effective, and engaging learning solutions.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS), including course development, deployment, maintenance, reporting, and content management. Experience with Percipio or similar LMS platforms preferred.
  • Experience creating SCORM-compliant e-learning content using iSpring Suite or similar course-authoring tools.
  • Proficiency in developing multimedia learning assets, including videos, graphics, simulations, job aids, presentations, and interactive learning activities.
  • Experience creating, managing, and maintaining process documentation, standard work instructions, and controlled document libraries.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to independently manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines from initiation through completion.
  • Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to create clear instructional content, process documentation, training materials, scripts, and technical communications.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, facilitation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and organizational levels.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills, including the ability to deliver training and facilitate learning discussions.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and continuous improvement skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Experience working in manufacturing, engineering, technical, or industrial environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation and change management processes is preferred.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Tekla, Solid Edge, or other 3D CAD software is a plus.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, professional journals, and blueprints. Ability to write reports and documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
