Insulator
The Insulator will remove asbestos containing building material, replace/install flooring, insulation and other building products within the active healthcare environment of the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. The Insulator maintains the integrity and proper operation of all asbestos safety and flooring concerns to ensure minimal interruptions to VA operations be kept to a minimum and the quality of patient care at a maximum.
Major duties include, but not limited to: Perform asbestos abatement tasks including inspection, encapsulation, containment, and removal of asbestos-containing materials (e.g., piping insulation, ceiling/floor tiles, cement boards, roofing, sheet rock mud, blown-in insulation). Construct negative-pressure enclosures and use glove-bag techniques to control fiber release during asbestos removal operations. Ensure strict compliance with EPA, OSHA, and Arkansas Regulation No. 21 for hazardous material handling, removal, and disposal. Assist Industrial Hygienists with facility inspections, surveys, and collection of air, water, and material samples. Calibrate, test, and maintain air-sampling instruments and safety equipment to support exposure monitoring and regulatory compliance. Bag, label, transport, and dispose of asbestos waste at approved toxic/landfill sites; coordinate delivery schedules with landfill personnel. Wear and enforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE); continuously monitor work areas for hazardous exposure risks. Complete and maintain accurate documentation for asbestos removal, disposal manifests, chain-of-custody, and daily activity logs. Perform journeyman-level carpentry: framing (metal studs, shoe/plate), drywall installation/finishing, flooring (tile/grid systems), and interior/exterior repairs. Operate hand, power, pneumatic, and powder-actuated tools (e.g., saws, sanders, routers, stud guns) to construct, modify, or repair structures and fixtures. Remove and reinstall furniture and fixtures (cabinets, desks, chairs, beds, tables) as required to support engineering and maintenance projects. Collaborate with other trades (Maintenance Mechanics, Painters, Carpenters) and perform cross-trade tasks such as plastering, painting, tile setting, and surface texturing as needed. Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (Subject to change based on the needs of the facility).
