Intermediate Application Analyst (Hybrid - Edmonton)

We are seeking an Intermediate Application Analyst to support a regulatory program within a public sector organization. This role focuses on application development, analysis, and maintenance for a complex oil and gas regulatory initiative. The ideal candidate will be responsible for gathering requirements, writing application code, designing technical solutions, and working closely with business units and development teams to deliver systems that meet current and strategic organizational needs.

This position requires someone who can write application code and perform systems analysis to support the implementation and maintenance of regulatory applications. The role involves designing databases and application architecture, defining non-functional requirements, assessing technical impacts, and recommending optimal design solutions that balance budget and timeline constraints. The analyst will liaise with business users to collect and analyze requirements, document business processes, produce technical and reference manuals, conduct unit and integration testing, and ensure all application changes are developed and tested in a controlled manner. This position also includes reviewing technical designs from other developers, troubleshooting system-level issues, isolating root causes, and contributing to application lifecycle planning and release scheduling.

This role is hybrid, with work expected from the office three days per week and availability required for onsite meetings when needed.

Qualifications

• University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related discipline with 4+ years of related experience, OR 2-year diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related discipline with 6+ years of related experience, OR 1-year certificate in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related discipline with 7+ years of related experience, OR current active professional certification or accreditation in related discipline from a recognized issuing body with 7+ years of related experience
• 5+ years - software development processes and all associated best practices, methods, standards, tools and policies
• 5+ years - Application Developer role in a large enterprise IT environment utilizing Sybase, C, and Solaris 11 or RedHat
• 5+ years - hands-on experience with C on the Solaris or RedHat platform
• 5+ years - hands-on experience with Sybase, embedded SQL code, stored procedures, data modelling and reporting services
• 5+ years - working with end-users to confirm requirements, support testing and maintain documentation

Nice to Have

• 3+ years - analysis, development and integration of complex IT systems with focus on management of multiple data sources, web services and legacy IT solutions
• 3+ years - unit testing and test-driven development tools
• 3+ years - hands-on experience using C# and Visual Studio
• 3+ years - hands-on experience developing and using InfoMaker and PowerBuilder
• 3+ years - hands-on experience with enterprise level job automation software and tools such as AutoSys
• 3+ years - developing and maintaining utilities using kornshell and perl scripts
