Intermediate Frontend Developer (React) – Hybrid - Cape Town
Summary
Builds and maintains responsive React + TypeScript web applications for an international gaming, leisure and entertainment group, working hybrid from Cape Town. Joins a front end or full stack squad, owns features end to end, integrates REST APIs, writes tests, and collaborates with product, design and backend engineers.
ENVIRONMENT:
Our client is a leading international gaming, leisure, and entertainment group offering exciting and entertaining customer experiences, in venues or online. They are looking for an Intermediate Front End Developer who will build and maintain high-quality web applications in React and TypeScript. You'll join one of their front end or full stack squads, reporting to the squad's Tech Lead. You'll take ownership of features end to end, working closely with senior engineers, designers and product managers.
DUTIES:
• Build and maintain responsive, pixel-perfect web applications in React and TypeScript.
• Integrate front end features with RESTful APIs.
• Write clean, testable, readable code using design patterns, SOLID and OO principles.
• Write unit and integration tests and support automated testing.
• Take ownership of features and deliver them to agreed timelines.
• Take part in code reviews, giving and receiving constructive feedback.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and back end developers.
• Take part in agile ceremonies (planning, stand-ups, retrospectives).
• Identify and resolve technical issues, escalating where needed.
• Give clear, timely status updates to your Tech Lead and stakeholders.
• Stay current with front end technologies and best practices.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 3 to 5 years' commercial web development experience.
• Strong, hands-on React and TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Solid experience integrating with RESTful APIs.
• Good grasp of SOLID principles, OOP and design patterns.
• Experience writing unit and integration tests.
• Exposure to building, automating and deploying software to production.
• Advantageous: Tailwind CSS, Material UI, CSS grid, Storybook or component libraries, Node.js, Next.js or Remix.
• Advantageous: front end automated testing tools (e.g. Jest, Playwright, Cypress).
• Previous experience in the betting, financial and/or banking sectors advantageous.
• Gaming industry knowledge is a plus, not a requirement.
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or similar preferred; strong hands-on ability is valued.
• SA citizenship or permanent residency required.
