Intermediate Full Stack Developer
Syntronic Ottawa Software Design Studio is looking for a versatile and motivated Intermediate Full Stack Developer to build modern software solutions across a variety of customer projects and industries. You will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, working on front-end experiences, backend services, APIs, databases, cloud environments, testing, and delivery. Because Syntronic's B2B project work spans different customers and technology stacks, adaptability and the ability to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly are central to the role.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, test, and maintain full stack software applications, including modern web interfaces and backend services.
- Build responsive, accessible, and maintainable user experiences using modern front-end development practices.
- Design and implement APIs, service integrations, and backend application logic that are secure, reliable, and maintainable.
- Work with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including data modelling, queries, and application integration.
- Deploy and support applications in cloud environments and contribute to cloud configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Participate in CI/CD, automated testing, containerized development, source control, and other modern DevOps practices.
- Apply secure software development practices, including appropriate handling of authentication, authorization, secrets, and application data.
- Analyze performance, troubleshoot defects, maintain existing systems, and contribute to technical improvements.
- Participate in design discussions, code reviews, estimation, documentation, and Agile development activities.
- Collaborate with developers, designers, product owners, architects, and external customer teams to deliver effective solutions.
- Communicate technical progress, risks, and implementation considerations clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Share knowledge with team members and provide constructive feedback through peer reviews and day-to-day collaboration.
What you'll need to get the job done
- 4+ years of professional software development experience, with hands-on experience contributing to both front-end and back-end application development.
- A degree or diploma in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Hands-on experience with one or more modern front-end frameworks or application frameworks, such as React, Next.js, Svelte/SvelteKit, Vue/Nuxt, Angular, or equivalent technologies. Experience across multiple frameworks or front-end ecosystems is strongly valued.
- Hands-on experience with one or more modern backend languages, frameworks, or runtimes, such as Node.js/TypeScript, Python, .NET/C#, Java/Kotlin, Go, or equivalent technologies. Experience across multiple backend technologies is strongly valued.
- Strong understanding of web application fundamentals, including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS, HTTP, APIs, and client-server architecture.
- Experience designing, consuming, and troubleshooting RESTful APIs or comparable service-based integrations.
- Experience with relational and/or document/NoSQL database technologies and a practical understanding of data modelling.
- Working knowledge of at least one major cloud platform: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Working knowledge of modern DevOps practices, including Git, CI/CD, automated testing, containers, and application deployment.
- Experience writing unit and/or integration tests and building software with maintainability and testability in mind.
- Understanding of common application security practices and secure software development principles.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills, with a demonstrated ability to learn new languages, frameworks, and platforms and move between customer technology stacks as project needs change.
What will make us REALLY love you
- Experience developing mobile applications using native technologies such as Swift or Kotlin, or cross-platform technologies such as Flutter or React Native. Flutter experience is a particularly strong asset.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform, AWS CDK/CloudFormation, Azure Bicep/ARM, or equivalent tools.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or other container orchestration technologies beyond local development use.
- Experience with microservices, event-driven systems, real-time systems, IoT solutions, or distributed application architectures.
- Experience working directly with customers or external development teams to clarify requirements, resolve issues, and deliver project outcomes.
- Experience contributing to software architecture or technical design decisions and evaluating implementation trade-offs.
- Experience with Agile delivery environments such as Scrum or Kanban and comfort working across project-based assignments.
- Breadth across multiple modern languages, frameworks, or platforms, together with a strong interest in learning unfamiliar technologies and applying established software engineering principles across different technology stacks.
