Intermediate Hydrogeologist

Stantec has an opportunity for an Intermediate Hydrogeologist to join our Environmental Services team. The position will ideally be in Waterloo, Ontario but there is flexibility for our other offices in Ontario. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and ready to engage in providing our clients with high-quality solutions while learning and growing both as an individual and as part of a team.

Your Key Responsibilities

As an Intermediate Hydrogeologist, you would be involved in a variety of projects related to hydrogeologic assessments, with a specific focus on the mining industry. The core competencies for this position include:

  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to company and client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner.
  • Prepare proposals, develop work plans/budgets and manage projects/tasks
  • Organize field investigations in support of hydrogeology studies including drilling, well construction, and testing oversight; groundwater and surface water sampling; water level monitoring; hydraulic conductivity testing; and infiltration testing
  • Develop conceptual site hydrogeologic understanding
  • Analyze and interpret data including pumping test results, aquifer response, surface water and groundwater interaction
  • Prepare technical reports documenting field investigations, analytical results and interpretation
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams on baseline and impact assessment projects, feasibility studies, groundwater and surface water assessments, development projects and water balance assessments
  • Assist project managers with developing project budgets, determining project scope, and establishing project schedules
  • Travel as required to various field sites; overnight travel sometimes required
  • Demonstrate sound understanding and application of established practices, standards, and guidelines
  • Majority of time spent in office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work

  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make timely decisions
  • Participate in Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work
  • Familiarity with local practice and markets as well as project management skills, is considered an asset
  • A valid G driver’s license is required

Education and Experience

Post-secondary educational background, ideally M.Sc., specializing in a Geoscience or Engineering program with an emphasis on hydrogeology
A minimum of 5 years of hydrogeological experience
Existing professional registration or ability to work towards a professional registration (P.Geo. or P.Eng.)

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
