Intermediate Java Developer
Summary
Builds and maintains Java enterprise apps for FICA-regulated financial services, implementing AML/KYC rules, secure data handling, and regulatory reporting in JBoss/Tomcat with Maven/ANT.
Our client is looking for a Java Developer with 3–5 years' experience developing enterprise Java applications within complex, FICA regulated environments. You must have strong expertise in Java 7, JEE (Servlets, JSP, EJB, REST, SOAP, JPA/Hibernate), JBoss, Tomcat, MS SQL Server, Maven, ANT, XML, LDAP, and Bitbucket.
On-site, contracting role based in Parktown
Required Skills & Experience:
- Relevant IT Degree
- 3 -5 years’ experience on Java 7 and JEE (Servlets, JSP, EJB, REST and SOAP, JPA/Hibernate), JBOSS, MS SQL Server
- 3 – 5 years’ working experience with Build tools i.e. Maven & ANT
- 2 years working experience using XML, LDAP, Design Tool i.e. XDE, Servlets, Internet development
- Linux operating environment is an advantage
- Web: HTML, HTML5, XML, CSS is advantageous
- Exposure to financial services and, ideally, AML / FICA, KYC / CDD, sanctions & PEP screening, transaction monitoring or regulatory reporting (goAML) solutions
- Experience building secure, auditable systems that handle sensitive personal and financial data in a regulated environment
- Good understanding and knowledge of J2EE application server i.e. JBoss & Tomcat
- In depth knowledge and use of UML
- Knowledge of and exposure to SDLC / Change Control / Release Management
- Solid understanding of versioning software i.e. bitbucket
- Working knowledge of FICA (Financial Intelligence Centre Act 38 of 2001), AML / CFT / CPF principles, and a risk-based approach to Client Due Diligence (CDD / EDD), sanctions, PEP / PIP and adverse-media screening
- Understanding of FIC regulatory reporting types (CTR, STR / SAR, TPR, TFAR / TFTR) and reporting to the FIC via goAML, including applicable thresholds and SLA timelines
- POPIA-aware data handling: data classification, field-level encryption / tokenisation of Highly Restricted data, role-based access control, immutable audit trails and record retention (minimum 5 years)
- Good computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio/Aris, Project)
Key Responsibilities:
- To engage in technical scoping sessions with Compliance, the MLCO and Enterprise Architecture with a clear mandate of defining and agreeing to the technology, design & tools for FICA / AML solutions
- Responsible for producing working implementation (code) of FICA / AML rules and controls from functional / technical documents such as a functional specification, BRS or Detailed Design (e.g. ATMS rules, transaction blocking and screening logic).
- To ensure appropriate use of tools and applications in place to support the secure development process and SDLC, including mandatory quality gates (SonarQube / SonarCloud), SBOM / vulnerability scanning (Trivy) and Git branching controls.
- Interacting and maintaining good relationships with business and compliance stakeholders (Compliance / MLCO, FICA administrators, Internal Control, business users, project management resources, testing and training teams)
- Software Development and Testing, Unit testing and Integration testing of code
- Database administration & manipulation to create SQL statements for ATMS rule logic, data ingestion and regulatory reporting (e.g. CTR, STR/SAR, TPR, TFAR/TFTR extracts for goAML), etc.
