Intern - Biochar Sourcing & Science (100%)

As a Sourcing & Science Intern, you will support a focused 6-month project to build a more complete and actionable view of the global BECCS and biochar project landscape. Working closely with the Sourcing and Science teams, you will help map the market, improve supplier data quality, conduct project assessments, and identify high-potential suppliers for future sourcing opportunities and customer RFPs. Through your work, you will strengthen Climeworks’ market intelligence and contribute to informed decision-making across biomass-based carbon removal pathways.

  • Market mapping: You conduct comprehensive market mapping of global BECCS and biochar projects, capturing key information on project status, geography, feedstock, technology, certification pathways, delivery profiles, pricing, and commercial readiness.

  • Supplier outreach: You assist supplier outreach activities, establish first-touch relationships with project developers, and maintain structured follow-ups to expand Climeworks’ network of biomass-based carbon removal suppliers.

  • Scientific project assessment: You support project ratings and due diligence assessments for biochar and BECCS projects through technical document reviews, supplier evaluations, carbon removal assessments, and the preparation of project summaries and marketing materials.

  • Due diligence support: You gather and organise project documentation, coordinate supplier inputs, identify information gaps, and prepare concise evaluation materials to support extended due diligence processes.

  • Data quality & market intelligence: You enhance the quality, completeness, and granularity of project data across Salesforce and internal databases to strengthen sourcing decisions, customer RFPs, and market intelligence.

  • Education & experience: You are a recent graduate or currently pursuing a BSc or MSc degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Climate Finance, or a related field and are looking for a 6-month internship opportunity.

  • Analytical expertise: You possess strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and are comfortable working with large amounts of project, supplier, and market data while applying scientific rigour and commercial judgement.

  • Industry knowledge: You have an interest in climate solutions and carbon removal, and familiarity with biomass, biochar, BECCS, energy markets, sustainability, or voluntary carbon markets is considered a strong advantage.

  • Working style & stakeholder engagement: You are organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple workstreams independently while confidently engaging with external stakeholders and supporting supplier outreach.

  • Communication: You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and can prepare clear, concise supplier profiles, project summaries, assessment notes, and other evaluation materials for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Our promise: At Climeworks, you are accepted for who you are, and we are committed to building an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply – regardless of background, identity, or experience. Studies show that women and individuals from minority backgrounds often only apply for jobs when they meet 100% of the listed criteria. If this sounds like you, don’t hold back.
