Summary
Intern contributes to applied cryptographic research by implementing and testing protocols, writing technical docs, and assisting with real-world security challenges using C/C++/Rust and Linux.
The Data Protection Lab, based in Düsseldorf, develops practical cryptographic technologies focusing on data integrity and confidentiality. To support our research activities, we are seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated students. In this role, the student will contribute to the development of applied cryptographic solutions for data security, work on real-world industrial challenges, and help improve the security of our current and future products and services.

Your mission
Analyze security risks of target application scenarios
Support the development of cryptographic protocols and other cryptographic solutions
Implement and benchmark cryptographic protocols
Document the findings and contribute to the writing of research articles
Your areas of expertise
Currently enrolled as a Bachelor or Master Student in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering or Mathematics
Good programming skills in C/C++ or Rust
Ability to read academic literature and IETF protocol standards
Technical writing skills and proficiency in using LaTeX
Excellent ability to work in a team and communication skills
Proactive and self-motivating character as well as the willingness to take initiatives and to be responsible for your project
Fluent in written and spoken English language
Nice to have:
Coursework or seminars in cryptography, cryptographic protocols, or provable security
Practical experience with cryptographic libraries and the implementation of cryptography-related applications
Rudimentary knowledge of post-quantum secure cryptographic primitives
Participation and award in computer science and programming competitions
Familiarity with the Linux system
Experience in application development and familiarity with technologies such as Docker
Familiarity with other programming languages, including but not limited to Python and Java
