ROLE OVERVIEW
The ACLU of Texas invites individuals, including undergraduate and graduate students, to apply for an internship in the Operations Department. Individuals passionate about civil liberties who are interested in developing skills in the social justice space in the local and state context will find an internship with the ACLU of Texas to be a rewarding learning experience.
We are looking for individuals who are curious, creative, and detail-oriented; have strong critical thinking skills.
INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
Time Commitment: Internships are part-time, requiring a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week. We generally prefer that part-time interns commit to work full workdays (i.e., two eight-hour days rather than four four-hour days). but schedules can be flexible. Internships are offered on a remote basis only. This generally requires students to have access to a computer and reliable internet. Houston based interns are welcome to work in our headquarters located in Downtown Houston.
Duration:
- 2026 Fall internship: 8 weeks (September 28, 2026, to Dec. 04, 2026)
- 2027 Spring internship: 8 weeks (January 26, 2027, to March 23,2027)
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As an intern at ACLU of Texas, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in meaningful work that advances civil liberties and social justice. Our internship program is designed to provide valuable experience by working directly with the team members of each department. You will work alongside passionate advocacy, legal, communications, operations and development experts who are dedicated to making a positive for our community.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Serve as the primary HR point of contact for interns throughout the internship lifecycle.
- Coordinate onboarding, orientation, and offboarding activities for interns.
- Partner with hiring managers and department mentors to ensure interns have meaningful assignments, training, and regular check-ins.
- Monitor intern progress, gather feedback from interns and supervisors, and support program improvements.
- Assist with recruiting for future internship cohorts, coordinating campus outreach, career fairs, and internship events as needed.
- Assist with tracking and monitoring the training via Absorb Learning Management System (LMS), including generating training reports and tracking tools.
- Research HR best practices, assist with HR metrics and reporting, document standard operating procedures (SOPs), identify opportunities for automation and process improvements, and support special projects related to HR.
