Summary

As an intern on Quadeye's Latency Systems Team, you'll optimize real-time trading systems that execute at nanosecond-level latency, working at the intersection of OS internals, networking, hardware architecture, and high-performance C/C++ software design, with mentorship and a clear path to full-time conversion at a top algorithmic trading firm.

About Quadeye

Quadeye is an algorithmic trading firm operating across major global financial markets and exchanges. We combine quantitative research, advanced mathematical modeling, and high-performance technology to develop sophisticated automated trading strategies across diverse asset classes.

Our teams work at the intersection of markets, mathematics, statistics, and technology, with significant ownership across the entire strategy lifecycle—from research and ideation to implementation, deployment, and optimization.

We offer a highly meritocratic environment where talented researchers and engineers have the opportunity to work on challenging problems, access world-class infrastructure, and see the direct impact of their work on live trading performance.

The Role

We are looking for a Systems Engineering Intern to join our Latency Systems team and work on the high-performance technology that powers our trading operations.

You will work at the intersection of operating systems, networking, CPU architecture, and high-performance software, contributing to real-time systems engineered for nanosecond-level latency. You will learn how to identify performance bottlenecks, optimize critical execution paths, and build reliable systems where every CPU cycle matters.

You will work closely with systems engineers, quantitative researchers, traders, and infrastructure teams while contributing across the systems engineering lifecycle:

Design → Development → Performance Engineering → Testing → Deployment → Optimization

What You’ll Do

• Design and develop components for real-time trade execution and risk management systems with stringent latency and reliability requirements.
• Profile critical execution paths to identify bottlenecks and improve system latency, throughput, and predictability.
• Optimize performance across CPU utilization, memory management, cache behavior, operating systems, and compiler-level execution.
• Explore low-latency systems concepts including kernel internals, CPU affinity, interrupts, clock sources, NUMA, and CPU microarchitecture.
• Research and experiment with high-performance networking stacks and kernel bypass technologies.
• Design and optimize algorithms and cache-efficient data structures for performance-critical workloads.
• Explore lock-free and wait-free approaches where appropriate for latency-sensitive systems.
• Build monitoring and diagnostic tools to analyze CPU cycles, network throughput, memory allocation, and system latency.
• Contribute across requirements gathering, system design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production monitoring.
• Collaborate with engineers, quantitative researchers, traders, and infrastructure teams to improve the performance and reliability of our trading systems.

Requirements

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline, preferably from a leading academic institution.
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
• Strong programming skills in C++ or C.
• Good understanding of operating systems, Linux, and system-level programming concepts.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in understanding systems at a low level.
• Curiosity about performance engineering, operating system internals, networking, and computer architecture.
• Familiarity with low-level debugging, profiling, or performance analysis tools is advantageous.
• Knowledge of Python, Perl, R, or other scripting languages is a plus.
• Ability to work effectively on multiple priorities in a fast-paced technical environment.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with a willingness to learn quickly and take ownership.
