Summary

Advises multinational corporations and high-net-worth individuals on cross-border tax planning and compliance between Japan and Taiwan, leveraging deep expertise in both jurisdictions' tax laws.

We are seeking an experienced International Tax Consultant to provide strategic tax advice on cross-border transactions and investments involving Japan and Taiwan. The successful candidate will possess deep technical knowledge of Japanese and Taiwanese tax laws, extensive experience in international tax planning, and the ability to advise multinational corporations, private equity funds, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals on complex cross-border tax matters.

Key Responsibilities

* Advise clients on international tax matters involving Japan, Taiwan, and other Asia-Pacific jurisdictions.

* Structure cross-border investments, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and financing transactions from a tax perspective.

* Analyze the tax implications of inbound and outbound investments, including permanent establishment, withholding tax, transfer pricing, controlled foreign corporation (CFC) rules, and tax treaty application.

* Provide advice on corporate income tax, indirect tax, capital gains tax, and individual tax matters relating to cross-border operations.

* Coordinate with legal, accounting, and business teams to develop practical and tax-efficient solutions.

* Conduct tax due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring projects.

* Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in Japan and Taiwan and advise clients on potential impacts.

* Assist clients in tax audits, tax authority enquiries, and dispute resolution where necessary.

* Develop client relationships and contribute to business development initiatives.

Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Law, Finance, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree in Taxation or Law is preferred.

* Professional qualification such as CPA, CTA, Attorney-at-Law, or equivalent is highly desirable.

* Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in international taxation, preferably with a Big Four accounting firm, international law firm, multinational corporation, or tax advisory practice.

* Demonstrated expertise in both Japanese and Taiwanese tax regimes is required.

* Strong understanding of:

* Cross-border tax planning

* Tax treaties

* Transfer pricing

* BEPS and OECD international tax principles

* Corporate restructuring

* International holding structures

* Experience advising multinational enterprises on complex international transactions.

* Excellent analytical, drafting, and communication skills.

* Ability to work independently while managing multiple client engagements.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working across multiple Asia-Pacific jurisdictions.

* Japanese language proficiency is preferred. Mandarin Chinese proficiency is highly desirable.

* Established professional network within the international tax community is an advantage.
