Internship - Evaluation of Advanced Connection Design Methods for Steel Lattice Towers

Function

During this internship, you will explore how advanced connection design software can be used in the design of steel lattice towers. You will identify the possibilities and limitations of the software and examine how it can be integrated into existing engineering and design processes.

You will develop representative models of different types of connections in Tekla Structures and analyse their mechanical capacity using IDEA StatiCa.

You will investigate, among others:

• bolted lattice connections;
• welded connections;
• connections between steel structures and concrete foundations.

Based on your analyses, you will evaluate the overall modelling and analysis workflow and formulate recommendations for its practical application in the design of steel lattice towers.

This internship can also be combined with a Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis.

Your Profile

• You are a master’s student in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related field.
• You have an interest in steel structures, structural analysis and technical design.
• You can communicate effectively in English, French or Dutch. Knowledge of one of these languages is sufficient.
