Interpreter (American Sign Language)

As an Interpreter (American Sign Language) at the GS-1040-12, you will be part of the Workforce Engagement and Accommodation Resources (WEAR) Division, Office for Civil Rights, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission(EEOC). If selected, you will be responsible for providing interpreting services for employees and visitors who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in EEOC Headquarters and Field Offices, for the public during interactions with the Agency and for EEOC employees in an employment setting.

Serves as an interpreter in a variety of settings involving hearing persons who are not familiar with manual communication, and employees who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

Interprets for EEOC visitors who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing so they can fully and equally understand the Commission's mission and functions and receive technical assistance.

Interprets for employees who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and engaged in specialized settings which may include appellate reviews, hearings, EEOC complaint or personnel grievance processes, seminars, and training programs.

Interprets for agency-wide special programs and formal conferences, Commission meetings, and press conferences.

Serves as a resource on Deaf Culture and provides guidance to support effective interaction and communication with individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in an interpreting assignment.

Conducts an on-going program of in-house sign language instruction for employees, supervisors, and managers.
