Summary

Analyzes M&A opportunities using financial modeling, statistical software (Python/R), and econometric techniques to forecast mergers and assess investment risks.

Investment Analyst, Weiss Asset Management LP, Boston, MA (in-person)

Responsible for analyzing investment opportunities with a focus on mergers and acquisitions including researching new investment strategies and interpreting and analyzing complex financial data. Specific duties include the following:

  • Performing economic and financial analysis of companies involved in M&A activities utilizing complex statistical and mathematical techniques and modeling, including analyzing complex financial documents and analyst reports, and assessing the probability and timing of potential mergers.
  • Researching and developing analytical tools to assess potential M&A opportunities through the use of financial statistical software to build models predicting the likelihood, timing and probability of mergers and acquisitions.
  • Employing advanced statistical, financial and numerical techniques to develop tools for evaluating M&A scenarios.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with counterparties to identify new M&A investment opportunities.
  • Utilizing advanced statistical analytics to support the trading of securities to implement firm-wide M&A strategies, as well as financial strategy development.
  • Utilizing advanced simulation modeling techniques to develop investment theses related to M&A activities.
  • Applying econometric time series statistical techniques to forecast economic trends impacting M&A activities.
  • Developing and validating detailed financial models, including running downside scenarios and reviewing financial projections.
  • Clearly identifying and communicating the investment advantages and risk scenarios for each investment.
  • Perform rigorous analysis on financial covenants and corporate structures incorporating analysis of credit indentures and ratings agency reports.

Requirements:

Position requires a bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent foreign degree) in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics or a closely related field and experience (which can include experience gained through academic course work, academic research projects and internships) with the following:

  • Financial modeling techniques including discounted cash flow analysis, macroeconomic forecasting, and corporate finance valuation methods;
  • Probability theory, statistical inference, linear regression, and stochastic processes applied to statistical models of investment;
  • M&A probability and timing tools using statistical software including Python and R, as well as econometric techniques for forecasting; and
  • Derivatives pricing and hedging strategies applied to equity and equity-linked securities in connection with investment strategies using Monte Carlo simulation and Black-Scholes option pricing models.

Position requires 5-10% domestic and international travel by air.

This is a full-time position requiring 5 days per week at the company's office in Boston, MA.

Salary is $135,000 to $200,000 per year for a 40-hour work week.
