Summary

Designs, develops, and tests embedded firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers (STM32, ESP32, ARM Cortex-M), integrating sensors and wireless protocols (MQTT, BLE, LoRaWAN) with cloud IoT platforms like AWS IoT Core and Azure IoT Hub. Also handles OTA updates, device security, low-power optimization, and hardware-level debugging.

1. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Hardware & Firmware Development: Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software and firmware using C/C++ for microcontrollers and microprocessors (e.g., STM32, ESP32, PIC, ARM Cortex-M, Raspberry Pi).
  • Circuit & Hardware Integration: Collaborate with hardware teams to interface sensors (temperature, accelerometer, gas, light), actuators, analog/digital IOs, and power management modules; assist in schematic reviews and PCB debugging.
  • IoT Connectivity & Protocols: Implement and optimize communication protocols for IoT devices, including MQTT, CoAP, HTTP/HTTPS, BLE, Wi-Fi, LoRaWAN, Zigbee, SPI, I2C, UART, and CAN bus.
  • Edge & Cloud Integration: Connect edge IoT devices seamlessly with cloud platforms (AWS IoT Core, Azure IoT Hub, Google Cloud IoT, or custom MQTT brokers); secure telemetry data transmission using TLS/SSL encryption.
  • System Testing & Debugging: Perform low-level hardware debugging and firmware testing using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and JTAG/SWD debuggers; troubleshoot signal integrity, memory leaks, and timing constraints.
  • Power & Performance Optimization: Optimize firmware code and power consumption profiles to ensure ultra-low power states, battery longevity, and efficient execution on resource-constrained embedded systems.
  • OTA & Security Implementation: Design and maintain Over-The-Air (OTA) firmware updates and implement device security standards, including secure boot, cryptographic hardware keys, and hardware root of trust.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Create comprehensive technical documentation, including system architecture diagrams, API specifications, testing procedures, and support compliance with industry safety and EMC standards.

2. Preferred Candidate Profile

  • Education:
    • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical Engineering (EEE), Embedded Systems, Computer Science, or related technical disciplines.

  • Work Experience:
    • 2 to 6+ years of hands-on experience in embedded firmware design, microcontrollers, and end-to-end IoT product deployment.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Embedded C/C++ programming and real-time operating systems (FreeRTOS or Embedded Linux).
    • Strong working knowledge of hardware interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, ADC) and wireless stacks (Wi-Fi, BLE, LoRaWAN, Cellular/NB-IoT).
    • Direct experience with cloud IoT platforms (AWS IoT Core, Azure IoT) and data serialization formats (JSON, Protobuf).
    • Familiarity with hardware tools (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, solder station) and IDEs (Keil, STM32CubeIDE, ESP-IDF, VS Code).
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical and hardware-software co-debugging skills.
    • Good communication and collaboration skills to work across cross-functional hardware, cloud, and QA teams.
