POSITION SUMMARY
The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist performs specialized diagnostic and therapeutic imaging procedures. The IR Technologist supports physicians during both vascular and non-vascular procedures, ensuring high-quality imaging, patient safety, and compliance with hospital and regulatory standards. This position is non-union.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares and positions patients for interventional radiology procedures, explaining processes to ensure comfort and understanding.
  • Operates fluoroscopy and specialized interventional imaging equipment in accordance with physician instructions and hospital protocols.
  • Assists physicians during a variety of vascular and non-vascular procedures, including but not limited to:
  • Angiography and embolization
  • Stent placements
  • Biopsies, drainages, and aspirations
  • Central line and port placements
  • Monitors patients throughout procedures and promptly reports changes in condition to the physician and care team.
  • Adheres to sterile technique and infection control protocols.
  • Practices radiation safety standards to protect patients, staff, and self.
  • Maintains accurate procedure documentation within patient records and imaging systems.
  • Ensures proper functioning, cleanliness, and maintenance of interventional radiology equipment; promptly reports malfunctions.
  • Collaborates with radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare providers to support coordinated patient care.
  • Participates in on-call coverage for urgent or emergent interventional procedures.
