Irrigation Technician

Department: Landscaping Reports To: Site Supervisor / Property Manager

Position Summary

The Irrigation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing irrigation systems to ensure the efficient watering of landscapes, parks, gardens, and other grounds. This position helps maintain healthy vegetation while conserving water through proper system operation and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair irrigation systems, including valves, pipes, sprinkler heads, drip systems, controllers, and pumps.
  • Troubleshoot irrigation issues and identify system malfunctions.
  • Program and adjust irrigation controllers and timers based on seasonal and weather conditions.
  • Perform routine system inspections to ensure proper coverage and water efficiency.
  • Install new irrigation components and system upgrades as needed.
  • Monitor water usage and recommend improvements for conservation and efficiency.
  • Respond to irrigation-related service requests in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles used in irrigation work.
  • Follow all safety procedures and organizational policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in irrigation system installation, maintenance, or landscaping preferred.
  • Knowledge of irrigation controllers, valves, pumps, and sprinkler systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair irrigation system issues.
  • Ability to read irrigation plans, maps, and schematics.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems related to irrigation.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily outdoor work in parks, landscaped areas, and recreational facilities.

Outdoor work environment with exposure to varying weather conditions. May require occasional overtime or weekend work during peak irrigation seasons.
