Position Summary
The AI/ML Intern will support the development, testing, and deployment of AI-powered solutions that improve productivity, automate processes, and enhance decision-making across Builders FirstSource. Working with engineers, architects, and business teams, the intern will contribute to initiatives such as AI assistants, intelligent search, Natural Language Query (NLQ) solutions, AI agents, and Generative AI applications. Responsibilities include prototyping, software development, data preparation, testing, model evaluation, and supporting scalable AI solutions that deliver business value.

Purpose
Gain hands-on experience developing enterprise AI and software solutions while building skills in cloud technologies, machine learning, Generative AI, intelligent automation, and application development. This role provides exposure to real-world business challenges and digital transformation initiatives across Builders FirstSource.

Key Responsibilities

Support the development, testing, and deployment of AI agents, copilots, and intelligent automation solutions.
Build and optimize prompts, knowledge bases, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions.
Develop and integrate APIs, Azure Functions, and cloud services that support AI applications.
Participate in model evaluation, validation, testing, and performance benchmarking.
Prepare, cleanse, and analyze data for AI and machine learning initiatives.
Contribute to proof-of-concept projects involving Generative AI, intelligent search, and predictive analytics.
Document AI use cases, technical designs, and implementation approaches.
Monitor and improve AI solution performance, reliability, and scalability.
Identify opportunities to automate business processes and expand AI adoption.
Adhere to AI governance, security, compliance, and data management standards.

Minimum Requirements

Actively pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Software Engineering or a related field.
Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Preferred junior or senior standing; all class levels will be considered.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook.
