IT Assistant (Part-Time, 16 hours/week)

The Mount Prospect Public Library is looking for a part-time IT Assistant to work in our IT Department. In this role, you will have extensive in-person interaction with staff and patrons as you respond to their help desk tickets and phone inquiries.
While no two days are the same, you will often provide desktop support to staff, troubleshoot various software and hardware issues, and assist patrons with printing, document formatting, and basic technology navigation.
SCHEDULE:16 hours per week; Monday through Thursday 5pm to 9pm
SALARY: $19.01 per hour

PURPOSE
Under the direct supervision of the Computer Services Supervisor, the IT Assistant is responsible for on-call computer help desk duties for Library staff and patrons involving computer hardware, applications, and office equipment. In addition, the position may also assist with installation, preventative maintenance and minor repair of all computers and their peripherals, and miscellaneous office equipment.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
This position comprises the following essential duties:
- First line technical support (approx. 80%)
Other non-essential job duties may include deployment and maintenance of equipment and/or other tasks providing support to the department or library.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
First Line Technical Support
- Performs on-call help desk duties for Library staff and patrons involving computer hardware, applications, and office equipment
- Assists in diagnosing computer and other equipment issues.
- Aids staff in the use of equipment and software
- Assists patrons in the use of equipment items in the public service area
- Performs basic computer and office equipment troubleshooting in the public service area
Other
- Assists with maintaining computer and various office equipment supplies
- Assists with network and Internet maintenance duties
- May assist with installs of communication and computer cabling
- May assist with installations, configurations and testing computer software and updates
- May perform physical maintenance on all computers, keyboards, monitors, disk drives, printers, peripherals, and various office equipment, as assigned.
- Remains aware of new technologies which have application to library operations
- Attends appropriate meetings, workshops and seminars
- Serves on committees as assigned
