The IT Business Analyst I supports the design, documentation, and communication of business and technical requirements for new applications, integrations, and process improvements.


This role serves as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring solutions are well-defined, properly scoped, and traceable throughout the delivery lifecycle. Working under supervision, the BA I assists in conducting discovery sessions, documenting workflows, preparing user stories, and supporting QA and UAT efforts. This is an entry-level analytical role designed to build expertise in requirements elicitation, documentation discipline, and process understanding, forming the foundation for future leadership in business or technical project management.

Requirements Gathering & Documentation

  • Assist in conducting requirement-gathering sessions with business stakeholders and subject-matter experts.
  • Document functional, non-functional, and technical requirements under the guidance of senior analysts or project leads.
  • Develop process flow diagrams, current/future state analyses, and user story drafts in alignment with project scope.
  • Maintain traceability between requirements, design, and testing artifacts within the project lifecycle.


Business Process Analysis

  • Observe and document existing workflows, identifying pain points, bottlenecks, or inefficiencies.
  • Collaborate with senior analysts and developers to translate operational needs into system requirements.
  • Support creation of use cases, data maps, and reference documentation for integration or enhancement requests.


Collaboration & Communication

  • Act as a communication bridge between business teams and technical staff, clarifying requirements and priorities.
  • Participate in stand-ups, sprint planning, and project review meetings to track status and dependencies.
  • Support the preparation of project documentation, release notes, and training materials for end-users.
  • Ensure timely and accurate updates of tickets or project tasks in Jira or other tracking systems.


Testing & Validation Support

  • Assist QA teams and stakeholders in validating solution behavior against requirements.
  • Participate in UAT sessions and log findings, feedback, and retest confirmations.
  • Support defect triage by tracing issues to their original requirements or design artifacts.


Continuous Learning & Process Maturity

  • Learn and apply ITIL, Agile, and SDLC principles in day-to-day work.
  • Contribute to improvement of templates, documentation practices, and knowledge repositories (e.g., the KB Vault).
  • Pursue ongoing skill development in business process modeling, data analysis, and solution design.

Requirements

Specialized knowledge:
  • Foundational understanding of software development lifecycles (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
  • Basic knowledge of business process analysis, requirements documentation, and system design principles.
  • Familiarity with data flow, integration concepts, and change control procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with the ability to synthesize information from multiple sources.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and attention to documentation accuracy.
Computer knowledge:

  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint) for documentation and collaboration.
  • Familiar with Atlassian Jira or equivalent tools for project tracking and user story management.
  • Experience using Visio for process mapping and diagramming.
  • Exposure to SQL or data query concepts for simple validation or investigation.
  • Basic understanding of cloud-based applications, API dependencies, or system integrations preferred.
Experience:

  • 1–3 years of experience in business analysis, project coordination, or system support, ideally within a technology or operational environment.
  • Demonstrated experience documenting requirements, tracking issues, or supporting project teams.
  • Educational foundation in Information Systems, Business Administration, or Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Prior exposure to Agile/Scrum or ITIL-based processes preferred.
