Te tīma | The team

Parliament IT is focused on setting a new standard for exceptional, customer-centred IT service delivery in the unique environment of New Zealand’s Parliament. The team works across people, products and services to make it easier to work digitally, while maintaining the security, reliability and sustainability needed to support Members of Parliament, Parliamentary agencies, stakeholders and the public.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

We are looking for an IT Business Partner who can get alongside our people, understand what they are trying to achieve and connect their ambitions with smart, practical IT solutions. This is not a role where you will sit back and wait for requests to arrive. You will be out across the organisation, building trusted relationships, uncovering pain points, exploring their future and identifying where technology could make a genuine difference.

You will become the connection between our business areas and Parliament IT, helping turn early ideas into clearly defined opportunities that can be scoped, estimated, supported by a business case and moved into delivery. If you know your IT, enjoy bringing people together and can sell a good idea without sounding like a salesperson, this could be your next move.

As our IT Business Partner, you will develop a deep understanding of the priorities, challenges and operating environments of the business areas you support. You will help give our customers a clear line of sight between what they need and what Parliament IT can deliver.

Tō kete | What you will bring to the role

Here's the exciting part, there is no single career path into this position.

You might be a:

  • Technical Business Analyst who enjoys stakeholder engagement
  • IT Project Manager
  • Change professional with technology experience
  • Service delivery or IT relationship specialist ready for a more strategic role
  • Technology professional who can bridge technical and business conversations

Whatever your background, you will need genuine IT credibility. You should understand technology and be comfortable discussing requirements, risks, testing, acceptance criteria, service management and moving work from idea to delivery.

Experience with agile and traditional delivery approaches would be useful. ITIL, Agile or SFIA-aligned certifications are desirable, not essential.

Most importantly, you will:

  • Build trust and strong relationships
  • Be curious, proactive and confident starting conversations
  • Influence and bring people with you
  • Translate technical detail into clear business language
  • Pitch ideas, explain value and build support
  • Work confidently with senior stakeholders
  • Stay effective when the path is unclear
  • Understand customer needs and IT delivery realities
  • Make sound decisions, prioritise and keep work moving
  • Connect technology trends to business needs

You will also bring strong experience in customer-facing or business-partnering roles within a large, complex organisation, with proven influencing, communication, relationship-management and problem-solving skills.

Ka riro i a koe | What you’ll gain

This is broader than a traditional Product Owner role and more relationship-focused than a standard technical delivery position. You will look beyond today’s backlog and help business leaders think about what they may need next. That could mean exploring how a service should operate in the future, considering how emerging technology could support a business goal, identifying when an existing solution may need to change or helping turn an unresolved problem into a viable piece of work. You will not be expected to deliver every solution yourself. Your value will be in finding the opportunity, asking the right questions, connecting the right people and helping good ideas gain enough clarity and momentum to move forward.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou | What’s in it for you?

Parliament IT is working to set a new standard for customer-centred IT service delivery. Its focus is on deeply understanding customers, organising services around the people it supports, anticipating future needs and making it easier to work digitally without compromising security.
