About Simm Group

Simm Group is a privately owned company encompassing a large and diverse number of businesses and assets throughout Western Australia and overseas. The core businesses include Northfleet, the largest fleet provider in the Pilbara; Running with Thieves, a boutique brewery and distillery in Fremantle and Henderson; Salt and Oak, a refined whisky bar and coastal eatery in Perth; and Tanah Mympi, a luxury private island resort in Indonesia — alongside various motor vehicle, real estate and other asset holdings

The Role

This is the lead IT role for our hospitality, lifestyle and asset businesses. You are the person those venues call for the big things, and the person who makes sure the technology they trade on actually works.

You will not carry the whole stack on your own. You will report to the Group Head of IT and a shared IT services team looks after the core platform, security and day-to-day helpdesk support for the entire Group. Your job is to know your businesses better than anyone, own their systems, and pull the shared team in when you need them.

It is a hands-on, business-facing role rather than a back-office one. You will be in the venues, understanding how they operate, owning the systems they run on, and running the projects that improve them.

Key Responsibilities

The businesses

  • Have oversight of the IT requirements of your venues and businesses

  • Understand how each venue actually operates, and where technology is helping or getting in the way

  • Translate what the business needs into practical change, and set sensible priorities when several venues want something at once

Venue systems and applications

  • Own the systems each venue trades on — point of sale, reservations and guest platforms, ordering, stock and the venue apps that sit around them

  • Configure, change and improve those systems as the business changes

  • Make sure staff can actually use them: training, floor support, and clearing up the workarounds people have invented

  • Get full value from the systems we already pay for, before we buy more

Local IT at the venues

  • Look after the technology in the venue itself — point of sale terminals, guest and staff Wi-Fi, printers, screens, and the site network

  • Get to a venue quickly when something is stopping trade, and know when to escalate to the shared team

  • Keep an accurate picture of what is installed where, so nothing is a surprise

Projects, openings and upgrades

  • Lead system rollouts, venue openings, refits and upgrades from planning through to a working floor

  • Manage timelines, budgets and the expectations of everyone involved

  • Bring each initiative back to the business as a costed case before money is committed

Vendors

  • Manage the business application and venue technology vendors — point of sale, bookings, and local service providers

  • Hold them to their service commitments, and get problems fixed rather than logged

Working with the shared team

  • Direct the shared Systems, Onsite and Helpdesk staff on work for your businesses

  • Escalate infrastructure, security and platform matters to the Senior Systems Engineer and Group Head of IT

  • Work within the Group’s security, data and change standards rather than around them

Who we're looking for

A practical, commercially minded operator who is comfortable working in an operating business. You would rather be in a venue solving a real problem than in a meeting about one.

Essential Criteria

  • Solid experience in a hands-on IT role supporting a business, ideally across more than one site

  • Confident with business applications — you can learn a system, configure it, and teach someone else to use it

  • Comfortable with venue-level technology: networks, Wi-Fi, terminals and peripherals

  • Good with people, including those who are under pressure, and need your help on the occasional busy Friday night

  • Organised enough to run a project, and honest about where it is up to

  • A current driver’s licence, and the flexibility to travel to venues within the greater Perth area regularly and Port Hedland as required

Desirable

  • Experience in hospitality, retail or another multi-site operating environment

  • Hands-on with point of sale and reservation platforms such as OrderMate, Lightspeed, H&L, SevenRooms or NowBookIt

  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and cloud-based business systems

  • An interest in using AI and automation to take manual work out of a business
