In this role, you will provide full-stack administration across the entire lifecycle, encompassing advanced engineering, routine administration, robust backup strategies, and comprehensive monitoring solutions. Working with significant independence and freedom on dedicated infrastructure, you will proactively challenge the status quo, formulate technical strategies that align with organizational objectives, and deliver exceptional customer service while mentoring team members to improve overall service delivery.

Description of the area

As an IT Infrastructure Engineer, you'll be part of an exciting journey - designing, installing, running, operating, and decommissioning infrastructure platforms that power critical applications for Roche.

What You'll Do:

  • Architect the future: You won't just maintain systems; you'll evolve our infrastructure platforms to stay ahead of the technology roadmap, ensuring our most critical applications thrive.

  • Collaborate & Co-create: Join a squad of high-performing professionals where your voice matters. You'll partner with application owners to bridge the gap between infrastructure and business value.

  • Champion Growth: Foster a culture of continuous learning and partnership, mentoring peers while refining your own expertise in a truly global environment.

  • Ensure Resilience: Take pride in the high availability of our systems, providing the robust support necessary for platforms that power life-saving work at Roche.

  • Embrace the Journey: We value drive and curiosity over checklist-ticking. You'll have the autonomy to explore new skills and challenge the status quo every single day.

Job Responsibilities

  • Navigating the Unknown: Take ownership of complex infrastructure and application challenges in the "grey zone," where you'll lead initiatives to turn ambiguity into clear, scalable progress for your squad and the broader product team.

  • Strategic Collaboration: Act as a bridge between technical platforms and business needs. You’ll manage stakeholders effectively, ensuring our infrastructure strategy directly powers Roche's product goals and long-term success.

  • Driving Technical Excellence: Influence technical decisions at the product and site level. You will set high standards for engineering quality, implement forward-thinking technical strategies, and mentor peers to elevate the team’s overall capability.

  • Championing Knowledge: Be a thought leader within the organization. You will share your expertise and help cultivate a vibrant culture of continuous learning and improvement.

  • Agile Operational Leadership: Balance daily operational support with proactive engineering. You’ll apply Agile principles to deliver robust, resilient solutions, constantly optimizing our systems to stay ahead of the technology roadmap.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent working experience.

  • Longstanding hands-on experience with infrastructure technologies like Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMWare vSphere/Nutanix Acropolis, Backup and Recovery systems, and MS SQL Server.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms is a plus, and networking & firewall expertise would be awesome too!

  • A Lean/Agile and DevOps mindset, with exposure to Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Ansible, PowerShell) and automated build/release test and deployment.

  • Knowledge of Agile Frameworks (SAFe) and continuous improvement methodologies would be a plus.

  • A bold and innovative mindset, ready to think beyond boundaries, collaborate effectively, and take controlled risks.

  • Proficient in English, and if you speak Spanish or German, that's even better!

  • A strong desire to work in a global, diverse, and multicultural organization.

Education / Experience

  • Demonstrated experience taking ownership of technical tasks, acting as a technical expert, and successfully driving small to medium infrastructure or platform initiatives.

  • Proven track record of managing and providing platform support for complex systems throughout the application lifecycle.

  • Experience engaging in knowledge-sharing initiatives and navigating group dynamics in diversified settings.

Technical Skills

  • Strong expertise in IT Technology, with an ability to provide platform support through streamlined processes and advanced tools.

  • Solid understanding of system architecture, platform integrations, and how individual technical components fit into larger enterprise systems.

  • Proficiency in analyzing technical data and drawing conclusions leading to innovative solutioning and operational improvements.

  • Familiarity with DevOps principles, cloud concepts, and agile methodologies applied to large scale enterprise environments.

Additional Qualifications

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to challenge the status quo and propose innovative technical solutions.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of prioritizing and maintaining a bigger picture view of how technical components fit organizational goals.
