IT Manager

About the role

Shape the IT and cyber security backbone of a growing sovereign business. This is a genuine build role where you'll set the strategic direction for IT and cybersecurity environment, and you'll also be the person who rolls up their sleeves to implement it. You'll architect the roadmap on Monday and be hardening endpoints on Tuesday.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the day-to-day operation, security, and continuous improvement of IT environment (Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Purview, Intune, Atlassian, AWS, and engineering platforms)
  • Lead cybersecurity uplift program, including Essential Eight maturity level 2, security monitoring, and vulnerability management
  • Support security obligations and ISM-aligned controls in partnership with Security Officers
  • Develop and maintain IT policies, procedures, and records management practices fit for a security-accredited environment
  • Manage vendors, licensing, and the IT budget, and advise the leadership team on technology investment decisions
  • Support secure onboarding/offboarding, user support, and staff security awareness
  • Plan for growth: headcount, programs, and security posture are all scaling, and the IT function needs to scale with them

About you

  • Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance
  • Demonstrated experience managing IT environments in an SME or similarly lean setting, where you were both the strategist and the practitioner
  • Strong Microsoft 365 / Intune / Purview administration skills, including identity, endpoint, and information protection capabilities
  • The ability to translate security and compliance requirements into practical, workable technical controls
  • Clear communication skills — you can explain risk and technology to engineers, executives, and everyone in between
  • Experience implementing and maintaining the ACSC Essential Eight (Maturity Level 2 or working toward it) — desirable
  • Familiarity with the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM), PSPF, or security requirements more broadly — desirable
  • Experience with SIEM/security monitoring tooling (e.g. Microsoft Sentinel) and data classification (e.g. Purview sensitivity labelling) — desirable
  • Exposure to engineering or manufacturing environments (PDM/PLM systems, ERP) — desirable
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. Microsoft, CISSP, CISM, IRAP awareness) — desirable
