IT Sales Technician
Salary: $25 – $30 per hour
Data Erasure NZ is looking for an IT Sales Technician with a difference. The role is full of variety and made up of many parts, hands-on tech, on-site deployments and collections, digital specialist and sales relationship builder. This is not a back room repair job rather a hands on and customer facing position as a key part of our customer experience team. You will be the person who takes second-hand laptops, desktops, phones and tablets and gets them sale-ready, lists them for the world to see, and puts them in front of the right buyers. This could be a customer from our website, an SMB customer or an IT reseller on the other end of a phone call. You will also get out from behind the bench and attend customer sites for collections including collections, IT deployments, rollouts and decommissioning projects.
We want someone who will own this role: build our outbound sales channel, grow our reseller network, and turn stock into revenue. If you like variety, enjoy talking to customers as much as you enjoy pulling apart a laptop, and want real ownership over how a role is shaped, this is for you.
What You'll Be Doing
• Prepare laptops, desktops, phones, tablets and other IT assets for resale — testing, grading, cleaning and listing them for sale via our website or to small-to-medium IT resellers
• Carry out simple hands-on repairs: swapping hard drives and SSDs, replacing faulty parts (RAM, batteries, screens, keyboards), and reloading Windows and drivers
• Manage and grow our outbound sales website, keeping stock listings accurate, current and appealing and capturing all interactions in our CRM
• Build and maintain sales lists and a client database, and proactively share stock lists with resellers and SMB customers
• Pick, pack and prepare stock for shipping, keeping orders accurate and on time
• Develop relationships directly with SMB customers and resellers — you'll be a genuine point of contact, not just an order-filler
• Identify opportunities to grow market share and bring in new reseller and customer relationships
• Keep accurate records of stock, sales and repairs, working to agreed turnaround times
• Attend customer sites to carry out IT deployments and rollouts — this may occasionally involve out-of-hours or out-of-town work
What You'll Bring
• A genuine interest in IT hardware and a practical, hands-on approach to fixing things
• Ability to perform simple laptop/desktop repairs — drive swaps, part replacement, OS reloads (Windows essential)
• Strong IT skills, especially Excel and CRM — you'll be building and managing sales lists and a client database, so this is a must-have
• A sales mindset: comfortable reaching out to customers and resellers, following up, and building trust over time
• Good organisation and attention to detail, especially when picking, packing and dispatching stock
• Flexibility and willingness to travel for on-site customer deployments, including occasional out-of-hours and out-of-town work
• A self-starter attitude — we want someone who will take ownership of this role and shape it as it grows
• A full NZ drivers license
• Goes without saying that you must be able to fit in as a part of the team, working with a small focussed group that have the customer as the centre of everything we do
