IT Site Engineer
Summary
Hybrid role in Lisbon combining on-site IT engineering and local security oversight for ICEYE Portugal, supporting engineering operations and ensuring compliance with national security standards.
Role highlights:
IT Site Engineer
Location: Lisbon, Portugal
Department: IT Service & Operations
Reports to: CEO of ICEYE Portugal
Employment type: Permanent
Workplace model: Hybrid
Employment is subject to applicable security screening (incl. SUPO, where required)
Why this role matters:
ICEYE Portugal turns sovereign intelligence from space into an operational capability built in Lisbon. This role keeps that capability running day to day. As the on-site IT engineer for the Lisbon Center of Excellence, you are the local presence that keeps the engineering office, the Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) and the Portuguese Air Force programme deployments running smoothly.
It is a hybrid role, modelled on how ICEYE runs its other international sites, and it sits at the centre of everything ICEYE Portugal does.
Who We Are
ICEYE is the world leader in sovereign intelligence from space. We deliver persistent monitoring capabilities to detect and respond to changes in any location on Earth.
ICEYE owns the world's largest and most advanced SAR (synthetic aperture radar) satellite constellation. To our customers we provide intelligence with unmatched quality, latency and revisit times, in any weather, day or night. To governments who choose to operate their own constellation we provide this proven capability as a sovereign system.
ICEYE-built constellations serve customers in defence and intelligence, environmental monitoring, insurance and emergency management. We enable fast decisions that contribute to a safer future.
Founded and headquartered in Finland, ICEYE operates globally with over 1000 employees across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
Your day-to-day responsibilities
IT site engineering
Own and resolve local IT issues across hardware, operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), printers and meeting-room systems, keeping daily operations smooth for the Lisbon team and visiting HQ staff.
Support FDE deployments at Portuguese Air Force locations (Alfragide, Sintra, Alverca) with secure laptops, peripherals, network connectivity and air-gapped workstation provisioning where required.
Proactively support and troubleshoot engineering and ground-segment IT systems, including Linux-based engineering workstations and local network infrastructure, to minimise downtime.
Manage local user access and permissions (Okta), maintain clear site documentation (procedures, configurations, vendor contacts, issue resolution), and handle a share of global IT requests via Jira Service Management.
Partner with the CEO and Head of People & Operations on the Class A office fit-out: structured cabling, AV, meeting-room kit and secure-area readiness for clearance-restricted workflows.
Cross-team collaboration
Work with ICEYE Oy IT and Security leadership so local infrastructure choices align with the global technical baseline (endpoint, MDM, network, identity).
Support the Local Security Officer on facility and secure-area technical requirements (network segmentation, air-gapped systems, secure-room technical setup) as needed.
What we’re looking for
Must haves:
Hands-on experience in IT support, field engineering or systems administration in a corporate or engineering environment.
Strong troubleshooting across Windows, macOS and Linux.
Solid networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, switching) and connectivity troubleshooting.
Experience supporting office IT equipment, collaboration tools (Google Workspace or M365), IAM platforms (Okta preferred) and Jira Service Management.
Comfortable working in a defence or aerospace environment with security-sensitive constraints (you will not hold the security officer function, but will work closely alongside it).
Excellent written and spoken English and Portuguese.
Pragmatic, calm under pressure, comfortable with ambiguity and matrix reporting (IT, Security, CEO).
Ability to obtain and maintain a Portuguese national security clearance, given the sensitivity of the sites supported.
Nice to have:
Endpoint management tools (Workspace ONE, Jamf, Intune).
Enterprise networking environments (Palo Alto, Cisco, Juniper).
Experience supporting engineering-lab, manufacturing or operational IT environments.
Familiarity with sovereign or accredited cloud environments (NATO RESTRICTED, EU RESTRICTED).
