IT Support Specialist (Helpdesk)

Location: Derby

Employment Type: Full-Time, Fixed Term (24 months with a potential opportunity of permanent)

Overview

We are looking for a IT Support Specialist (Helpdesk) to join the APC team! This is a full-time in-person role, based at our office in Derby with travel across project sites across the UK. The core working hours are 8:00am-5:00pm (including a 1-hour break), Monday to Friday.

Position Summary

The IT Support Specialist is responsible for day-to-day IT operations, supporting Microsoft 365 services, managing end-user devices, assisting with onboarding and offboarding activities, and helping deliver technology improvements across the organization. In this role, you will be working with other members of the IT team and will be reporting to the IT Manager.

Responsibilities


End User Support:

Act as the first point of contact for IT support requests.

Log, manage, and update support tickets through to resolution.

Provide support via phone, Microsoft Teams, email, and in-person assistance.

Troubleshoot common hardware, software, printer, mobile device, and connectivity issues.

Escalate more complex issues to senior IT team members when required.

Maintain a high level of customer service while supporting users across the business.

User Onboarding & Offboarding:

Prepare laptops, monitors, mobile devices, and accessories for new starters.

Assist with account creation and access provisioning.

Support onboarding and offboarding activities in line with company procedures.

Ensure equipment records and user documentation are kept up to date.


Microsoft 365 Support:

Assist users with Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office applications.

Support password resets, MFA enrolment, account access requests, and mailbox troubleshooting.

Assist the IT team with routine Microsoft 365 administration tasks.

Device & Asset Management

Configure and deploy laptops and mobile devices.

Assist with Microsoft Intune device enrolment and management activities.

Maintain asset registers and inventory records.

Coordinate equipment repairs, replacements, and returns.

Documentation & Administration

Maintain IT documentation and knowledge articles.

Record troubleshooting steps and resolutions.

Assist with routine administrative tasks within the IT department.

Project & Site Support:

Support IT projects and technology rollouts as required.

Assist with office setups, desk moves, printer deployments, and meeting room equipment.

Provide occasional support at APC offices and project locations when required.

Education and Experience Minimum Requirements:

Degree in Information Technology or 1+ years of experience in an IT Helpdesk role or similar.

Excellent communication, coordination, and time management skills.

Good understanding of Windows Environments, networking protocols, and IT infrastructure.

Ability to diagnose & resolve IT issues effectively.

Adherence to policies and procedures as documented for IT related activities.

Maintaining accountability, responsibility, and expectations as defined for helpdesk related activities.

Desirable:

Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 Admin Stack, including Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Entra ID.

Experience working with helpdesk ticketing systems.

IT Certifications such as Microsoft Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals, Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate, CompTIA certification highly beneficial.

Familiarity with ITIL framework or best practices in IT Service Management.

Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM) tools such as Intune, including setting up policies, managing mobile devices, and troubleshooting device-related issues.

Understanding of cybersecurity principles, MFA, data protection, and compliance policies.

Driving licence and willingness to travel occasionally.
