About the role:

The IT Support Technician Apprentice is an important part of the IT team. The school is increasingly dependent on its IT systems working properly and efficiently. You will be responsible for system wide technical support including: workstations, laptops, printers, audio-visual, telecoms and printing. In co-operation with teachers you will support the teaching of IT by preparing relevant materials and working alongside pupils and teachers in the IT suites.

Responsibilities:

  • Handle frontline queries from various sources including email, helpdesk and telephone

  • Maintain communication with users, updating requests logged on the school’s ticketing system, and escalating them within the team as required

  • Install and maintain computer hardware, workstations, laptops, audio/visual equipment and peripherals

  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of IT equipment

  • Assist with the expansion of the school network infrastructure including switches, cabling and wireless network equipment

  • Routine administration including iPad maintenance, data backups, workstation health checks, anti-virus scans

  • Software installation, maintenance and upgrading

  • Support staff and pupils with the set-up and preparation of IT equipment around the school

  • Provide high quality customer focused technical support and training to non-teaching and teaching staff and to pupils

  • Assist with the set-up of AV equipment for lectures and presentations

Essential skills:

  • Good IT skills, hardware knowledge and familiarity with the full range of Microsoft products (including Office 365), Google Workspace and operating systems

  • Awareness of cyber security requirements

  • Health and safety awareness

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team

  • Ability to take initiative

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Ability to prioritise under pressure

  • The willingness to contribute to the lives of the pupils, parents and staff at the school

  • Well-motivated and reliable

The following experience would be beneficial:

  • Experience working in the education sector

  • Experience of working with iSAMS

  • Knowledge of non-windows environments (Apple and Linux)

  • Experience of learning platforms

  • Experience of managing social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)

  • Internet and e-mail management

  • Experience of using and preparing audio/visual equipment

  • Experience of installing and maintaining PC hardware and software

  • Experience of supporting end users

  • Experience of troubleshooting network faults

Entry requirements:

  • 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 4+ (A-C) in any subject

  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalents) at grades 3+ (D or above)

  • Prospective apprentices must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship is in a similar subject

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.

Working hours: 40 hours per week
