IT Systems and Infrastructure Engineer
Summary
Owns Checkatrade's hybrid cloud and on-prem IT estate at their London office: administering core platforms (Okta, Google Workspace, Jira Service Management, Slack), Windows Server/AD, and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP), while building PowerShell/Python/Bash automation and applying an AI-first approach to IT workflows.
As our next IT Systems and Infrastructure Engineer, you'll play a key role in helping us build the UK's go-to home improvement marketplace. You'll own the foundations that keep Checkatrade running - our hybrid cloud and on-prem environments, our core platforms, and the automation that takes manual effort off the plate of teams across the business. This is a role for someone who wants to build things properly: scalable, secure, and increasingly automated, with AI doing the heavy lifting wherever it can.
Forget long lists, here's what you'll actually spend your time on:
Administering and evolving our core platforms (Okta, Google Workspace, AI tools, Jira Service Management and Slack) as the backbone of how Checkatrade operates day to day.
Building and maintaining secure, reliable infrastructure that keeps our teams and systems running smoothly, and stays easy for people across the business to use.
Taking ownership of Windows Server, Active Directory and Office 365, alongside our cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or Google Cloud), managing identity, access and collaboration tools that empower our teams.
Developing automation scripts in PowerShell, Python or Bash, and building workflow automation using tools like Okta Workflow and Zapier, to improve system efficiency.
Bringing an AI-first mindset to how we manage and automate IT: spotting where AI tooling and agentic workflows can replace manual effort, not just scripting the same process faster.
Delivering improvements through a proper project lifecycle: scoping, planning, stakeholder sign-off, delivery and review, rather than ad hoc fixes.
Working closely with security, platform and software engineering teams to deliver tools and systems the business can rely on.
It's not about ticking every box. It's about turning up curious, ready to crack on. You'll do well here if you bring:
Hands-on experience administering Okta and Google Workspace, plus endpoint/device management tools like Kandji and Intune across macOS, Windows and ChromeOS.
Proven experience managing IT infrastructure across Windows Server, Active Directory and Office 365, with strong expertise in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or Google Cloud).
Day-to-day administration of Jira Service Management — queues, SLAs and workflow automation.
Scripting skills in PowerShell, Python or Bash, and experience building workflow automation with tools such as Okta Workflow or Zapier.
An AI-first mentality: comfortable evaluating and administering AI tools to solve IT problems, not just familiar with them.
Experience delivering IT projects through a structured lifecycle, with a solid grasp of networking and security fundamentals (DNS, VPNs, firewalls), and the ability to explain technical detail clearly to different audiences.
Nice to have:
Experience leading on-prem to cloud migrations (Azure Migrate or similar).
Familiarity with SD-WAN and Zero Trust Network Architecture.
Experience supporting major AV events using Zoom and Google Meet.
