Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and motivated Fire Sprinkler Service Technician to join our Fire Sprinkler Department.
The Fire Sprinkler Service Technician is responsible for performing service, repair, maintenance, replacement, and troubleshooting of residential and commercial fire sprinkler systems. This position requires a strong working knowledge of fire sprinkler systems, the ability to work independently, sound mechanical judgment, and a professional approach when interacting with customers, property managers, building owners, and other job-site personnel.
The position may include work on both residential plastic/CPVC systems and commercial steel piping systems, with assignments varying based on company and project needs.
The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, a go-getter attitude, reliable and predictable attendance, and a desire to continue developing their skills and knowledge within the fire protection industry.
This position requires a minimum of 2–3 years of full-time experience in the fire sprinkler trade.
Core Responsibilities
1. Fire Sprinkler Service & Repair
- Perform service, repair, maintenance, replacement, and troubleshooting of residential and commercial fire sprinkler systems.
- Install, service, repair, and replace sprinkler heads, valves, fittings, piping components, hydrants, and related fire protection equipment.
- Diagnose system issues and determine appropriate repair or replacement solutions.
- Work with both residential plastic/CPVC piping systems and commercial steel piping systems.
- Perform assigned service work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company quality standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, plans, diagrams, and other technical documentation as necessary to complete assigned work.
- Identify potential system deficiencies and communicate required repairs or concerns to the appropriate supervisor, customer, or property representative.
2. Codes, Standards & Technical Knowledge
- Maintain a working knowledge of applicable NFPA standards, including:
- NFPA 13D
- NFPA 13R
- NFPA 13
- NFPA 14
- NFPA 20
- NFPA 25
- NFPA 80
- Apply applicable fire sprinkler codes, standards, manufacturer requirements, and company procedures when performing service and repair work.
- Stay current on industry practices, equipment, materials, and applicable safety requirements.
- Demonstrate sound mechanical reasoning and the ability to troubleshoot problems in both standardized and non-standardized situations.
3. Customer Service & Professional Conduct
- Maintain a professional attitude and appearance while representing Symons Fire Protection.
- Interface professionally with property managers, building owners, customers, general contractors, and other job-site personnel.
- Clearly communicate the status of service work, identified issues, recommended repairs, and other relevant information.
- Respond to customer questions and concerns in a courteous and professional manner.
- Protect customer property and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Represent the company in a manner consistent with its commitment to quality, safety, and customer service.
4. Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies and required safety procedures.
- Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain awareness of job-site hazards and take appropriate precautions when performing service work.
- Follow applicable OSHA, Cal/OSHA, NFPA, manufacturer, and company requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Safely operate ladders, tools, equipment, and other materials required to perform assigned duties.
- Immediately report safety concerns, damaged equipment, hazardous conditions, or other issues to the appropriate supervisor.
5. Independent Work & Teamwork
- Work independently with limited supervision while maintaining company quality and safety standards.
- Demonstrate the ability to give and follow directions.
- Manage assigned service calls and tasks efficiently.
- Communicate effectively with service managers, supervisors, technicians, and other members of the team.
- Assist coworkers and other departments as needed.
- Demonstrate initiative and a willingness to take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
6. Documentation & Technology
- Complete accurate service documentation, reports, work orders, and other required paperwork.
- Document work performed, materials used, system conditions, deficiencies, and recommended repairs.
- Use company communication and technology systems as required.
- Demonstrate the ability to use Paycom, Outlook, ServiceTrade, and basic mobile-device functions.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate service information in a timely manner.
7. On-Call & Emergency Service
- Participate in the company's 24-hour on-call rotation.
- Respond to after-hours emergency service calls as scheduled.
- Be available and prepared to respond to emergency fire sprinkler system issues when assigned.
- Maintain professional communication and service standards during emergency and after-hours calls.
- Safely troubleshoot and address emergency system conditions within the scope of training and qualifications.
8. Attendance & Work Standards
- Maintain reliable and predictable attendance.
- Arrive at assigned locations on time and prepared to perform required duties.
- Maintain a professional attitude, strong work ethic, and positive approach to assigned responsibilities.

- Maintain appropriate communication with supervisors regarding schedules, service calls, delays, and other work-related matters.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
