Japan Seasonal Helper Role Description

Purpose

The purpose of seasonal ministry help is to provide encouragement, support, and extra capacity to the churches in Tokyo and Shioda during particularly busy ministry seasons.

These opportunities are designed to strengthen existing outreach efforts, build relationships, and lighten the load on local church members during seasons when there are many events, visitors, and ministry opportunities. Seasonal helpers come with a willingness to serve wherever needed and to support what God is already doing through the churches.

Required Qualifications

• Active member in good standing in the Apostolic Christian Church of America, with local elder approval.
• Commitment to serving the full spectrum of ACCA membership across all congregations.

• Support the ACCA Statement of Faith and Statement on Marriage and Sexuality.

• Models a lifestyle and character that reflects Christian values in both personal conduct and professional leadership.

• Proven track record of exercising sound judgment, discretion, and servant-hearted leadership.

What Seasonal Help Might Look Like

Every season will look a little different, but seasonal helpers would generally come alongside existing ministry efforts. This may include helping prepare for gatherings, leading music, assisting with setup and cleanup, participating in events, helping with food preparation, welcoming guests, spending time with families and visitors, or simply being an extra set of hands during busy weeks.

The goal is not to create new ministries, but to strengthen and support the ministries that are already taking place. Seasonal helpers would be encouraged to participate in church life, build relationships where opportunities arise, and help create a welcoming environment for those who are connecting with the church.

Serving Well

Seasonal helpers are invited to come with a spirit of flexibility and initiative. While local church members will help provide guidance, the hope is that seasonal helpers would be comfortable navigating many day-to-day logistics on their own and looking for practical ways to lighten the load of those local. The desire is not for local leaders to take on additional responsibility caring for guests, but rather for guests to come as servants, contributing energy, encouragement, and practical support during a busy ministry season. Therefore, it is important for seasonal helpers to be self-starters, able to occupy themselves when there are not tasks, and able to reasonably navigate Japan.

Length of Service

December 2026 Specifics

• December 1 – December 22, 2026

• Could be filled by:

• 1-2 individuals or couple for the entire period preferred

• If necessary two separate teams serving during different portions of the month
  

Desired Skills

• Musical ability (mostly singing, but piano or other instruments would be a benefit) to assist with singing events

• Assisting with cooking, baking, food preparation

Potential Ministry Activities

Tokyo

• English Christmas pizza supper and sing

• Gingerbread house activities

• General outreach event support

Shioda

• December 6 Christmas event for English students and Shota class

• Christmas service

• English Christmas singing

• Gingerbread houses

• December 20 candlelight service for English Night Singing families, homestay students, and guests

Other Opportunities

• December 19 "Cooking with English" event

• Assisting homestay students and English Night Singing participants with food preparation

• General setup, cleanup, food preparation, hospitality, and guest interaction

Primary lodging at the Ito family's guesthouse ("Blessing House"), located behind their home

• Convenience store nearby

• Grocery store within walking distance

• Possible lodging at the Tokyo church depending on schedule and availability
